"The Way I Heard It" by Mike Rowe - Short stories in a similar style to Paul Harvey's "The Rest of the Story". I think it's really well done.

Tell me what's so good about Pardon My Take, and why I should listen. I hear a lot of people mention it. And what's the difference between that and Barstool?

Going to put a link to this one since embedding it shows some words that would otherwise be censored, but Joe Rogan is evidently the target of a Westboro Baptist protest for whatever reason.

Edit....the link copies it in here too.

Just google Joe Rogan Instagram Westboro Baptist and you'll find it.

Looking for some new podcast series to listen to at work, home, in the car, etc. At least to tide me over until football season when there will be a lot more content.

Currently subscribed to:
CycloneFanatic (duh)
FiveThirtyEight Politics
ESPN 30for30
Murph & Andy/Sports Fanatics (only listen to these if I miss the shows)

Have listened to a few Rogan podcasts, but I usually don't have time for a 3+ hour podcast. Also enjoyed Slate's Slow Burn series about Watergate, and I believe they're coming out with a new series about Clinton/Lewinsky in August that I'll be listening to.

What are some of your favorites? Any category (sports, politics, religion, personal finance, etc.) welcome.

Very Interesting Podcast last Thursday on the Joe Rogan Experience. He had Jimmy Dore on to talk about lots of things, but mostly politics today. Essentially, he calls out the hippocracy on both sides of the isle in politics. He can be a bit extreme in some cases, but for the most part he is just being someone looking at it without any type of colored glasses on.

I've really changed my podcast preferences in the last 6 months because of guys like Joe Rogan. I've stopped listening to overtly one-sided shows (like Pod Save America, which I recommended earlier in this thread). I mostly listen to non-political shows, or shows that aren't intended to political, like Rogan and some episodes of Dave Rubin's show. I just like listening to people talk about ideas rather than debating stupid political events or telling you why the "other side" is evil.

Yeah, I usually tend to stay away from the obviously political discussions, which this episode certainly is. For your exact reason. But one of my buddies requested I should listen because he said it was refreshing to hear a person speak on the topics today without bias one way or another. Like I said, Jimmy Dore can be a bit over zealous in some of his comments/debates, but I think everything he touches on has good points/reasoning to it, and he isn't just spouting it to hear himself speak. YOu can tell the stuff actually irks him, or gets him excited, etc. And Joe, although he is obviously more on the left, is a great interviewer who can keep most any discussion going with good input and questions.

One topic I found fascinating was them speaking about Alex Jones before he become infamous for the Sandy Hook stuff. They touched on the guy he was back when Bush was in office, and some good detective work he has actually broken stories on. And just who he was before he became the moon-faced screamer that we know.

I'll add a couple to the list
Covert - tells behind the scenes stories of military operations; US, Israel and UK
Slow Burn - I listened to season 1 over the weekend. It's all about Watergate. Season 2 is about Bill Clinton's presidency.

Yeah, Rogan has some really good ones like Jordan Peterson, Ben Shapiro, and many others. I enjoy many of Shapiro's "Sunday Specials," though I stay away from his daily show (too political). He has a clear conservative bent, but he tries to stay pretty objective in those interviews. The one with Mike Rowe from a few weeks ago was great.

The great thing about Rogan is he takes all comers. He's had Alex Jones, Ted Nugent, and many other "oddballs" on his show and I'm always amazed at how he's able to carry on a conversation with them. Even though he disagrees with much of what they say, he at least tries to parse out what their point is and let the listener decide if it's bogus or not.

I've really gotten into Dave Rubin's youtube/podcast lately. Interesting guests, and he seems to have a good interview style. Just chatting with whomever, not taking over the conversation.

You might like Shapiro's Sunday Specials, too. Again, he's conservative and is not shy about it, so some of the questions he asks are overtly meant to discuss a specific topic. However, he does have on some great guests with differing opinions from his own (like Sam Harris). Others are on just to beat the conservative drum (like Charles Prager, for example). I pick and choose which ones I listen to.

So the death of Whitey Bulger got me going down a mafia rabbit hole, and I found this podcast on I heart radio called 'Mafia'. I highly recommend it; talks about high profile gangsters as far back as the 20's and their influence on politics and JFK. I've only listened to a couple episodes so far; currently on the Jon Gotti one, but its entertaining. Just google mafia on the I heart radio app. Not sure if this link works or not

I just started listening to podcasts while running and my buddy who is a trucker turned me on to Sword and Scale. I will warn you, it makes me more disgusted with our species than I already am sometimes.

Joe Rogan is by far my favorite. I like the Sunday special by Ben Shapiro also if he gets someone on there with an opposing viewpoint.

If there are any space nerds and history buffs out there, BBC’s “13 Minutes to the Moon” is an excellent podcast on all aspects of the Apollo missions. Hans Zimmer did the music, and it is very well produced and formatted. They are on Episode 5 out of 11 (I think) so far.

Fun fact, Iowa State alum Steve Bales was GUIDO for Apollo 11, and made the call on the 1202/1201 alarms on descent.
