I didn’t say you were trolling.
I suggested you were being insecure and thus you got trolled. That joke is innocuous.

I don't really care that Holberg is going to be back, but I'm excited about Monte coming back!

But what I do want to point out is that hearing Prohm talk about it is pretty amazing. Steve gets compared to Holberg constantly and most of the time unfairly. (see the first comment in this thread---maybe Prohm can teach Fred how to play defense or hold players accountable) Every time Iowa State loses or doesn't win by enough, the Iowa State Men's Basketball Facebook page is filled comments about how everyone wants Fred back. I'm sure Prohm gets plenty of messages on twitter from idiots about Fred.

But yet, time and time again, Steve gives Fred credit for everything. If someone asks about a win Steve will jump in to give credit to Fred. There hasn't been much as far as blaming the previous coach for last year from Steve. Replacing a legend is never easy. There's a reason so many times they fail. I know that most people would get plenty sick of hearing about the person we replaced, no matter how good he was.

I know Fred will get a well deserved welcome tomorrow night, but what I hope is that Steve gets an even warmer welcome. Because he's the one that is here. He's the one that recruited Marial and Lindell and Tyrese and Talen. He's the one that has formed a pretty special bond with Monte. And he's the one that just had ANOTHER tope 25 road win ;)

We've got a special coach. I wish we'd realize that.

Prohm is a special coach, and so was Fred. IMO, it's silly for everyone to keep comparing one against the other. It's negative energy and disrespectful to both.

JFC!!! Fred is a Cyclone Legend and he should be welcomed back. Do you remember the Chewbacca years. The only way Fred will be involved with ISU basketball is if he becomes an associate AD in charge of the BB program, not as a coach. Unless T.J. is our coach and he wants Fred on the bench beside him. Or Georges is our coach.

Why so insecure and thus so easily trolled by the thread title? There’s a thread about Morris coming to the game and another thread tracking former recent Cyclones. It’s what fans tend to do in regards to former players. There’s even a thread about a former player’s daughter.

Hoiberg is currently one of the more prominent figures associated with Cyclone basketball. He’s known as a NBA guy, and there are likely current players and recruits that see value in the connection. It’s been long enough since he left that you shouldn’t throw a fit about his presence in Ames getting attention.

Why don’t you finish the statement about what he is known for in nba circles?

I like both Hoiberg & Prohm...each has contributed mightily to our program. I'm glad to see Monte & Fred (and maybe Georges) come to a game. I'm glad Prohm has invited Fred to talk to the team. I see no need to compare them, or to point out strengths & weaknesses.

Let's just enjoy the fact that our former stars like coming home to Hilton!

Pointing out that this board is obsessed with Fred is far from trolling.

I agree that he is a prominent figure in Cyclone Basketball and should be welcomed as such. I also think that taking pop shots about in-bound plays in the OP is a garbage take.

You’re responding to THE most insecure poster on here. He’s one that roots for us to lose so he can go after the coach.

It still boggles my mind for everything Hoiberg did as a coach and a player how many people hate him. Extremely odd. It is possible to like both Fred Hoiberg and Steve Prohm. I fall in that category.

Who hates him? I don’t. I’m not particularly invested in him anymore. But he’s not the coach here and I think the current coach is often unfairly compared to him by the majority on here. As noted by the snide comment about out of bounds plays in this thread.

And I think the more interesting story is our current coach is gracious when talking about him all of the time. I don’t think many people understand how hard it was to replace him.

So, like I said, I know Fred will get a warm welcome. But prohm deserves a better welcome.

You are strange. Time to get over your Fred obsession

Find me a game thread where someone isn’t bringing up Fred and comparing prohm to him unfairly. I bet no more than 5 exist. And I’m not the one doing it.

Anecdotally, the newer fans don't value Fred like the old guard. He was my favorite player (and everyone else's at that time) growing up, and I'll always think of him first as "The Mayor" on those Orr/Floyd teams. I don't think anyone hates him, but some fans think of him as the coach that left ISU for the NBA.

Over/under on ESPN camera shots of Fred during the game? It's going to be obnoxious.

Bringing up the previous coach is natural and commonplace, and that’s without them being a legend at the school and having unprecedented success after nearly a decade of poor play (four tournaments in a row). What’s more odd is how many people misconstrued harmless comparisons into attacks on Prohm. Do you remember the frustration with Hoiberg era defense? No, you probably don’t, as Fred had yet to scorn you.
