I for one don't think that Scates is a troubled kid. He and his roomates were running around with air guns last summer and had a party in the fall. Honestly, that's a pretty good way to learn a lesson without getting into any major legal issues. With him being just out of HS, I know that I did worse things than that without getting caught. We'll see if they come out with a two deep in the spring, but if they do, I expect him to be on there.

I just hope he realizes that he will always have the microscope on him here at ISU. Someone's going to notice when a big 6'3 kid is doing something they shouldn't be and he's going to get caught.

You can't have this conversation without including Re-al Mitchell.

Look, Lanning was a great story, but not every backup QB is a good move to LB

That new safety we got on signing day is an exciting one to watch for, but we have a lot returning at safety so he will probably play in 4 games or less. Would like to see him see some time and maybe get in on special teams.
He’s very good—and, he already lost a year. If he’s not seriously rusty, I’d expect him to play more than four.

I'm not sure that's true.
I am. It’s simple math.

He never lost a year. He will be a true freshman.
He graduated in 2018. He lost a year of time, not moving his life and career ahead, spent in limbo. You don’t get that back.

I could certainly see where he wouldn’t want to lose another calendar year to a redshirt, and start his college career as a (presumably) 20 year old redshirt freshman.

He’s got that kind of talent.

Leonard Glass has my vote. Don't know if he will play offense or defense. But definitely should be given some time. Check out his highlight film !!!!! Very impressive speed !!!!!

You're getting deep. Hell if you wanna look at it that way, everyone loses time.

Although you CAN have this conversation without including Mitchell, which is exciting.

There's some nice talent around ISU.

It will be interesting to see how they use Mitchell. I look at him like CMC looked at Lanning.... he's way too good to be just sitting on the sideline holding a clipboard all game.

Look at the affect he had on just the one play he came into the game at the Alamo Bowl. Leach noticed Mitchell was out there playing wideout and called a timeout immediately. After the timeout, he was still out there at wideout, came in motion, and we just ran a simple counter hand off to Montgomery going back to the side of the field vacated by Mitchell going in motion, and gained about 10-15 yds.

Just him being on the field caused panic on the defense.
