I'd be shocked if Downing isn't our starting left guard come September. I forgot to include him.. However, he won't be coming out of nowhere like Mike Rose did
I for one don't think that Scates is a troubled kid. He and his roomates were running around with air guns last summer and had a party in the fall. Honestly, that's a pretty good way to learn a lesson without getting into any major legal issues. With him being just out of HS, I know that I did worse things than that without getting caught. We'll see if they come out with a two deep in the spring, but if they do, I expect him to be on there.

Hopefully Scates can keep his nose clean if he's ya'lls pick as a breakout player.
He’s very good—and, he already lost a year. If he’s not seriously rusty, I’d expect him to play more than four. That new safety we got on signing day is an exciting one to watch for, but we have a lot returning at safety so he will probably play in 4 games or less. Would like to see him see some time and maybe get in on special teams.

He never lost a year. He will be a true freshman. He’s very good—and, he already lost a year. If he’s not seriously rusty, I’d expect him to play more than four.
I am. It’s simple math.I'm not sure that's true.
He graduated in 2018. He lost a year of time, not moving his life and career ahead, spent in limbo. You don’t get that back.He never lost a year. He will be a true freshman.
You're getting deep. Hell if you wanna look at it that way, everyone loses time.I am. It’s simple math.

I could certainly see where he wouldn’t want to lose another calendar year to a redshirt, and start his college career as a (presumably) 20 year old redshirt freshman.
He’s got that kind of talent.
Take it easy tiger, plenty of time for you to figure out how unfair life can be.I am. It’s simple math.

Although you CAN have this conversation without including Mitchell, which is exciting.
There's some nice talent around ISU.
