One of site's writers wrote 2-3 weeks ago that upcoming stretch was most important of Prohm's career

The 2011-12 team had two more wins and the same amount of losses at this point in that season including two losses (one to UNI) at home and that was a lot of fun.

I said two weeks ago that this is a crucial point in Prohm's career, but I didn't limit it to two weeks and I still stand behind it. A ton depends on if the team succeeds or falls on its face in the postseason.

The space I occupy in your head is lovely.

If this group stays even somewhat intact, next season will definitely be important.

Every team has a bad day here and there but they feel more often than not lately.

Why is this such an important season. This is year 2 of the rebuild. If you look at what this team has done they may have overachieved, from what was expected out of them at the start of the season. Sure the hype train started after some nice wins, but with the amount of young guys playing you are going to have ups and downs. There has also been injuries and off the court issues that have had its affect. If this teams gets to 10 wins with 3 wins vs ranked teams on the road and 5 or 6 road wins that is damn good if you look at it from a historical standpoint. Granted it is not the high of the last 8 years but this has been a nice season. This record and place in the Big 12 is what many were predicting at the start of the year.

Agree. In November there were ZERO fans who expected, or even thought, this team could go from worst to first.

Yet, sometime in late January, and early February, some fans began to expect them to win the league. Did I think they had a chance? Yes, but sure as hell never expected it. I am disappointed in their effort the last few weeks, and if it continues, then that is a problem. But I'm not trashing them because they didn't finish first or second in the league, when if you predicted that in November, you'd be labeled the biggest sunshine pumper on the site.

One win over Kansas in early January and pretty soon ISU went from being a young team with some talent returning to the most deep and talented team in the league.

Someone in another thread said ISU should have won the league by 2-3 games!

I keep seeing "most talented" repeated almost as if the people spouting it believe it...

And as far as the future, and continued building of this program, it would be most ideal to return as many players from this team as possible. Sounds obvious, but I see way too many posters hoping Wigginton and or tht move on after the season.

Unless you're the blue bloods of the country, with elite talent, it's the experienced teams, ones that have played together and understand college basketball, that are successful.

If Wigginton and or Tht return next season, and the other contributors are back, then we can expect a top 2 or 3 finish in the conference, and fighting for a top 4 seed in the tournament.

If neither of them are back, then realistically we're back to middle of the conference, and mid seed in the tournament, depending on additional players yet to come in.

Most talented and deep team in the conference even after other teams look better.

I'm too lazy to look it up but I'm going to assume that wasn't the narrative in December.

I disagree on the crucial part. They could lose out, and if they come back and go to the tournament again next year, nothing will have substantially changed either way.

I’m in the minority, which is fine, but I think the NCAA Tournment should be the floor for a Top 30 program like Iowa State. That is what Fred built and what Steve continued in his first two years. I understand a rebuild every 5 years may occur but when you have been to the tournament 7 of the last 8 years that becomes the cultural and the expectation.

Losing out and finishing 20-13 (which should not happen) would be disappointing. No school is ever going to fire a coach when they make the NCAA Tournament but if you are just making the tournament every year and not advancing then it is going to be difficult to keep Iowa State at that Top 30 level as a program. So in that respect I think the next two weeks are quite crucial.
