Besides a big paycheck I’m not sure why he wouldn’t wait until the end of the NBA season to see what was available. So did he get his fill of the NBA or will Nebraska be a place holder till another good NBA job comes up.

It’s called Cyclonefanatic for a reason. We don’t cheer all teams equally. We don’t hand out participation stars. People work in an office all day and escape reality for CF. Cause in reality, it’s a bunch kids in their underwear chasing a bouncing rubber ball. If something good happens to OUR team, we cheer. If something good happens to an opponent, we don’t cheer. It’s not about being grownups, that’s boring, that’s not CF.

I guess I don’t get it. CFH has done a ton for Iowa State and we have a coach that just won his second conference tournament championship in 4 years. Nebraska will certainly raise their profile with Fred but the Iowa State program isn’t going to fall apart because CFH moves to Lincoln.
All that is true. I believe all of that. I still hate the idea of Fred Hoiberg coaching Nebraska. Why do you think liking Fred, Prohm, the current state of our basketball program and hating the idea of Fred coaching Nebraska are mutually exclusive?

Technically he is from a college coaching perspective. I’m not “butt hurt” but it seems like a real slap in the face. Guy takes money grab to the Bulls and then goes to Lincoln to coach BASKETBALL.

Let's face it, there is no pressure coaching basketball at NU. Not like at the Chicago Bulls. Not like in Ames as the Mayor.

If rumors are true, I think Fred's reputation as a coach takes a big hit for going to Nebraska. But it is entirely possible that I give him more credit as a coach than the rest of the coaching world does, as well.

I guess we will find out shortly.

Except for the fast track he received to his coaching career. He used his stature at ISU to skip years of working his way through the ranks, so yeah, he may owe some things.

So how many consecutive NCAA Tournaments did he owe the fans before going to the NBA? How many years of the AD paying him the 7th best salary in the Big 12 did he owe before going to the NBA? Those who think JP was ever going to pay CFH over 3.5-4.0 million a year (given the state of football at that time) are crazy. Did we have boosters willing to step up? Absolutely. Did the AD want to set the precedent that ISU could pay a basketball coach that much? Absolutely not. People joke about the Travis Hines article but there is a lot more truth to that article than what Cyclone fans want to believe.

Part of me is pissed that he is coming back to coach in college after leaving us for the NBA but mostly i understand it. I got to the baylor game really early and i saw fred walk in on the baseline and the place went nuts. It would have taken me less than 30 seconds to walk from where he was when I saw him to his seat. It took fred about 15 to 20 mins to get there because literally every other person he encountered wanted to talk, a selfie, or an autograph. About the middle of the first half he went to the tv table for an interview and it was the same thing on his way back to his seat. 1 woman couldnt get her camera to work so fred was standing with her for a minute or so. I don't care how nice of a person you are, that **** would get old.

Why would his reputation take a hit from anything other than bitter ISU fans? It's a well paying job, close to home, at a P5 school that's not afraid to sink money into basketball. Sounds like a decent gig to me.

For everyone ******** about it, he's coaching in a different conference at a school we don't even go up against anymore. The dude hasn't left this region of the midwest his whole career. He obviously wants to be around here. There aren't a whole lot of options right now outside of Neb and KU and I for one would much rather see him in Neb than down in Lawrence.

He will always be the Mayor.
Of Lincoln?

Don’t take this personally. It’s not about Fred. I’m sure he’s a great guy. But a great Cyclone? Not while he coaches Nebraska. His status as a beloved Cyclone is dependent on the level of success he achieves at Nebraska. Is Gable a beloved Cyclone? Any ex-player or coach is free to coach a rival. They don’t owe us tenure. But we don’t owe viewing them as great Cyclones when they’re now Huskers/Hawkeyes/etc.
