Sounds like he has a talk with John Walters tonight on WOI on the 10 o'clock news.

I caught a clip or two on M&M, and it sounds pretty "interesting".

When asked why he went to Pollard instead of Chizik, he hems and haws and then basically says "I didn't want to waste his time". Seriously?

I would (of course) go to the CEO of my company to quit, rather than talk to the HR director. Why waste the HR director's time? :nah:

I caught that too, that's pretty funny. Note that he started his answer by saying "to be honest..." and we all know what that means when someone starts an answer with that.

Have shovel, will comment and dig and dig and dig. This is starting to seem like a media propaganda act to me. They must not realize how dumb this is starting to sound.

I have a little interest and faith in this piece since it's coming out of WOI. Not saying they would protect ISU, but remember John Walters is the Sports Director over there.

If it were WHO, I'd completely agree. They're the trash network of central Iowa and will do anything in an attempt to drive up ratings.

KCCI? Tweener.

Maybe he will announce he will be joining his buddy Niles Paul in Lincoln.

I suspect he was a big part of recruiting the class members and that is where it may hurt the most for the future.

Obviously PB was thinking of quitting before that fateful day - sopmewhat like Wesley did.

He only wants to play qb, preferably as a starter. He will go anywhere to accomplish the mission, even Iowa.

Something must have been dropped on him for him not to play in the KU game.

He should be asked where he will be sitting on Saturday.

He should be asked "What should Gene Chizek call a player who leaves the team 2 days before a conference game?"

I'm sure if PB would of called Chizik, Chizik would of talked him out of it. That's probably why he had his dad call Polord so it was different.

Has anyone come up with a reasonable explanation why he quit in the middle of the season yet? We can all come up with tons of reasons why he would be better waiting until the end of the season, but there isn't a very strong argument for quitting in the middle. If he gets asked that question, someone please post the answer.

Ding ding ding. And he knew that too.

Which means he knows he wasn't leaving for the "right" reasons...or he knew he was doing something he didn't really want to deep down.

Alas, it sucks, we move on.

I don't need an interview to tell me anything. He is a whiney brat who didn't get his way so he quit. His daddy is the reason he is a whiney brat. This experience was likely the first time the whiney brat didn't get what he wanted.

"Since my freshman year until now, some things have occurred, and I just felt like this was a good time for me to step down," Bates said.

and
The unusual timing of his departure. "This gives me a chance to know about different schools and let them know about me so that we would have a relationship at the end of the season

Exactly. In another interview he said his dad tried to convince him to stay at Iowa State, which is good. But whatever happened to letting your kid make his own decisions, and at the same time making them own up to those decisions and face them? Why didn't his dad tell him, "If you want to leave Iowa State that's fine. But go talk to your coach and tell him where you're at in this." Instead, his dad talks to Pollard and not even Chizik?????

Oh, well. When in Rome.....

I know he is young, so I won't say I lost a lot of respect for him but I am severly disappointed in him.
