Didn't realize Pettway struggled.

Liked what he did the other day. What's his speed like, i.e. does he have big play potential?

I actually agree that it wasn't as bad as the score indicated, however, there are still a lot of huge question marks we need to figure out in the next two weeks, or Iowa will beat us by double digits from what I saw watching both teams play in week one.

My biggest concern is pass protection. Epenesa and Gholston would have taken Purdy out of the game had we played Iowa on Saturday instead of UNI.

And my next biggest concern would be the scheme and the playcalling. We will obviously have to open up the playbook a LOT more against Iowa, and Manning will have to figure out his short yardage calls.

A few shots downfield would really help

Hopefully there's improvement for Iowa and we see even more vs. ULM before a crucial trip to Waco.

Executing and establishing an identity vs. Iowa will be more important than the playbook.

Pretty clear they like to run those quick hitters to Jones to Pettways side. He is a grown man out there and go take a corner completely out of the play.

Just hope the play calling isnt vanilla against Iowa as it was last year. They thrive against teams trying to ground and pound. Needs to be a game where we spread them out and throw the keys to Purdy.

Totally agree with this! Braxton adds another element to this defense as far as tacking in space. Also did anyone else notice Steve Loney being on the sidelines during the game? Was he just visiting or is he helping out with the staff in some capacity?

Chris - Have you heard anything about Braxton Lewis? I'm surprised this hasn't been talked about more. Really missed his leadership and sure tackling last week.

I agree. Chris said the lack of explosive plays was due to guys not stepping up. I would say it had a lot more to do with the play-calling.

They were pinning there ears back and flying to the ball. That and a dink and dink pass/run game makes it pretty predictable. It also makes it difficult for the oline

This is what I'm scared of too. Campbell has a lot of Ferentz in him from a game management/strategy standpoint. It's not in our best interest to try to win a 14-10 game. Manning showed two years ago that he's not afraid to open up the playbook early. Hoping we see more of that style, but I'm skeptical. I hope Kene is healthy.

Same old same old. If people bought the OL hype for like the 80th time that’s on them.

I thought our o-line actually played a pretty solid game. There were obviously a few hiccups but we ran it well and had a good surge up front. Most pass protection issues (Brock incomplete pass returned for 6) were due to blown assignment, which is 100% correctable. this o-line has a lot of potential and they will only get better.

Agreed with everything here. I rewatched - a lot of the lack of deep balls was the fact that they couldn’t protect long enough. If the line became serviceable that would be huge.

That is so strange, though. By the end of last year they were a decent pass blocking line but struggled to establish the run. This is the same group of guys. Did we change blocking schemes in the off season?
