Positives - I love what CMC is doing. Games like this are really difficult. UNI comes in with a huge chip on their shoulder and if not for a questionable defensive TD this game does not come close to over time.
CMC used this game to establish offensive line play. They did not look pretty this game, but we all know from last year's missed game how important it is to use this game to build chemistry up front. This tells me CMC is practicing what he preaches... get better every day. Work at the things that will help us contend for Big 12 championship. To me, this is a positive and it will greatly help us against our toughest competition. Did anyone really think replacing DM would be easy?
Also, I love that Purdy has found himself a go to target in the pass game. DJ was awesome. UNI had to know he was their primary target, yet he kept finding a way to get open and make plays. This is going to provide purdy with a ton of confidence and can be built upon the next couple of weeks.
We walked away with a win and nobody will care that the game went to 3 OT's against an FCS team. Much like on one outside of Iowa remembers we almost lost to Drake.
Negatives - Well, I can't say we can have a whole lot of confidence in our run game right now. I do like the potental of Nwangu though. DM did so much for us that I am concerned we will become 1 dimensional with our offense.
Other than that, I am really not that concerned. I would be concerned if CMC hit the panic button and became one dimensional with our offense. But he didn't. I like the the offensive approach and believe it is going to help us immensely going forward.
Thank you for asking. A nice break from the ones focused on the wrong fan base.
