I'm tired of hearing about the great Matt Campbell

Your point? The ******* CFP is still in play.

Don't be a sackless ***** over people expressing the belief that we're not likely to win more than 7 or 8 games in the regular season if we continue to play like we have on offense and ST (for nearly two years).

LOL you are one if the most negative posters on here so go ahead and file me into the "tired of your same old crappy takes" category. But yeah feel free to call it a year after game 2...

So you're not someone like BillBrasky that is "still expecting big things this year", who later goes on to allude to that a being a conference title. How negative of you.

7 wins would be a disappointment, and you should rethink which one of us is annoyingly down on the program and staff if you feel otherwise.
8 wins would be a missed opportunity, which conventionally is viewed as disappointing.

I never expressed 7 or 8 wins as a coaching failure. There is a substantial difference between a season being a disappointment (7 wins) or missed opportunity (8 wins), and a coaching failure.Try not to resort to straw mans, it's annoying and erodes your point.

What would be a failure is the offense and ST if it ends up being 7 or 8 wins because of them.

IMO 3 straight 8 win seasons would certainly fall into the big things category but you do you.

I'm sorry, but it's going to take longer than 3 seasons to out-coach the ISU national stage curse.

If the holding wasn't called on that 4th down we would be talking about the endzone pick.
If the last punt return wasn't screwed up we would be talking about the missed FG.

I expected 1 of 2 outcomes in this game.
1 – ISU gets throttled
2 – ISU finds a way to lose a close game

Call me superstitious, but if this was a normal 11 am game ISU would have won by 14. I don't know what the answer is. One of us needs to offer up our first born or something.

This staff always is telling the players how paying attention to detail and doing the small things win you games. That game was a perfect example.

Penalties, turnovers, and mental mistakes are everything at this level.

That's all great and all and certainly affects games. But they've completely ignored the big picture. Talent and coaching are the most important factors.

Head coaches are only as good as the assistant coaches they hire and the recruits they get. Right now Heacock is making Campbell look like a genious. The offensive coordinator is making him look like not so much a genius. If Heacock retires or takes on a job somewhere else we will find out how good Matt Campbell is. Right now he is looking pretty good. If we could get the offense to figure out how to score touchdowns inside the 30. He would be looking super good. CPR could not recruit. Didn't have good coaches that could recruit either.

I completely agree. Campbell is a really good CEO. If he can be a great CEO and realize that he is one Great OC away from being able to put up a statue on campus then terrific. If not, then this is probably going to plateau. 8-5 is good and I'm certainly never going to want him gone but it could be a little better.

My biggest takeaway from Saturday was that those are two good teams that have a lot in front of them. Some of you Nancy's need to sack up and just accept the loss. The little things that cost us the game are 100% correctable and I'm still expecting big things this year.

Still undefeated in the Big 12.

Who on offense creates an inherent mismatch and can stretch the field? I understand people’s concerns about the offense but do we have dynamic playmakers or are we going to have to rely on 8-11 play drives? Longer drives require being more efficient in the red zone. The year is still young and this offense is still growing up.

Also the “missed opportunity” argument seems to suggest that the defense will fall off the map next year and that Ramos and Downing cannot exceed the current starters with a year of growth. Lima, Spears and Bailey will be huge losses but you could still return 7 starters on that defense with Eni, Rose, both corners and Eisworth leading the way.

This program is set up for sustained success in a way we have never seen before and I have been going to games since 1984.

The good thing is that we really start to play well in October, but man it is frustrating to watch a team make so many mistakes early in the year.

The play calling was a lot better today but 3ed down defense, penalties, special teams and Brock's fumble were too much.

Fumbles happen. Don't like em, but they happen. The rest pretty much tells the story.

I miss the old days of Rhoads and the “I wish we were more like Iowa” crowd.

I think most people believe that “disappointment” and failure (or failure to meet expectations) are one in the same. There must have been a class on “straw mans” argument at Iowa State in the last decade because that same terminology gets thrown around a lot on this website when a person is losing an argument.

Yeah, I'm not going to rip on Brock's fumble in those conditions. The rest is all 100%correctable.
And we also didn't capitalize on two interceptions that were in our hands. Should've could've would've won the game but we didn't. Figure out our offense once we get past our opponents 40's and this team will be very good. Everyone needs to take a step back from the ledge and let the season play out.

That's the hardest thing to stomach. Those plays HAVE to be made.

It made me sick watching us drop the pick in the end zone that would've completely changed the game. Maybe not the outcome, but the game would've ended in a different way. Have to, have to, have to make them. I think we will end up making those plays as the season moves forward.

All in all we just lost to a freaking solid Iowa team by 1 on a weird day and we had many opportunities to win.
