Iowa fans wearing their hawk gear to ISU games is their fans pissing on ISU, plain and simple. It’s the residual effect of the 1980’s spilling over into the first quarter of this century. Some bad habits are just hard to break.

Keep on taverning tavern hawks.

Meanwhile, I have a hard enough time watching a full Iowa game on TV. No way would I subject myself to going to their games just to be an ***.

So does this apply to baseball? I have definitely worn a twins hat to a random white sox game while I lived in Chicago.
I don't do it. I am a St Louis Cardinals fan and never were Cardinals gear to games the Cards are not involved. I don't even wear Cardinals gear to I-Cub games.

We traveled to the last Colorado game in Boulder. There was a guy there wearing a Auburn Cam Newton jersey. Auburn was coached by Gene Chizik at the time. An Auburn fan at a Colorado/ISU game. Why?

Dumb fans are everywhere.

I know we hate the Hawks, but sometimes people like going to games as a "third-party" and want to represent their team, even if they are not playing in that stadium.

I have gone to plenty of games wearing cardinal/gold (e.g., ND and Virginia in Charlottesville) just because I want to be with friends/family and enjoy a game.

I work with a ton of UVA grads. Been to a fair number of their games and Wiz games.

It is not that big of a deal.

I honestly believe that some of these people just buy and wear Iowa apparel just because they live in, or are from, Iowa. I see far too many of them out farting around in their yards, shopping, etc. wearing Iowa sweatshirts, oblivious or uncaring that Iowa is actually playing a game at the same time.

I've seen this with international students in Ames who are rather disconnected from the sports world. They like the shirts that say "Iowa" with no regard to the CyHawk rivalry or actual support for an institution. They may not even know that the shirt is tied to a particular school until someone explains it to them.

As people in the Cave on here will tell you, nobody likes somebody who does not have a side (even if the side is not playing in the stadium that afternoon).

Yeah that’s just not true. At all. And I’m not talking about politics.

I do not recommend it for a potentially antagonistic situation --

For instance, wearing Iowa/Iowa State stuff when the other is playing a third-party or walking into an Ohio State game against whoever wearing Michigan stuff.

But what's the harm having Cy on your shirt when it is like two ACC schools?

I don't agree with doing it in your scenario, but going to a rival's sporting event wearing your team's gear screams "look at me!". I've been to a ton of games wearing neutral clothing.

I agree that doing it to a rival when you are not involved is poking the bear. Then again, I have worn gold in Allen Fieldhouse before (when we were playing, it was the BDJ year that we ended up losing 89-76 with Georges getting 24). That says "look at me!" loudly.

I just do not see the harm when, again, you are essentially a neutral party.

An Iowa fan at an Iowa State game is not a neutral party.

So where do you stand on this?

So where do you stand on this?

Just as I said.

Not a great idea to butt in on a rival when not involved.

No big deal with you are a neutral party.

See my examples for the former -- Iowa/Iowa State games when one is not playing the other, Michigan stuff when going to an Ohio State game, things like that.

See my examples for the former -- wearing ISU gear when watching Notre Dame and Virginia play or any other ACC match-up when ISU does not have a dog in the fight.

It's not that hard to figure out.

Unless you want to cherrypick and ignore context.
