What's up with the short shorts making a comeback? Tyrese is so tall and lanky they barely cover past his mid thigh. I've got underwear longer than that

Can we shoot like this two nights in a row? Hopefully we can.

No kidding! Did y’all see the graphic last night of Seton Halls front court depth? Two skilled 7’2” guys and oh...just 3 more 6’10 or above.
HOW is that even possible???

The short shorts have started making their way back little by little over the last few years. It has to do with style, comfortability and freedom of movement. The baggier shorts that cover the knee caps have faded away due to them being more restricting. It's not just in basketball either. Jean and khaki shorts have gotten shorter as well as swimsuits. The retro look is in right now and I am here for it.

It's true. My son is a HS baller and he thinks the baggy ones are old-fashioned (even though all his music is hip hop). And anything around the knee irritates him. He rolls his up like Tyrese.

I'm a recent ISU grad and always rolled my shorts because I couldn't stand the shorts over my knees, however growing up I loved the longer shorts because I thought it made me look like Diante Garrett

They have one of the best players / shooters / scorers in the nation. Myles Powell. Dude is a stud and is going to be an extremely tough defensive assignment.

Yeah, I've watched Powell since he was a freshman; I go to SHU games each year. He's a great shooter and is skilled putting the ball on the deck. I'm interested to see how our guards do against him - it seems to me that we have an advantage of being able to switch a lot with TH, Bolton and Nixon. And Jackson is very mobile (though I did notice him getting lost a couple times on D vs. Bama). Maybe we can contain him better than most.

There's some talk among SHU fans this year that it's "Powell and 4 guys" but I haven't had a chance to study the supporting cast yet this year. I do know they were 7 for 13 from 3 vs. So Miss so not total stiffs.

The last SHU game I went to, Powell had a terrible night shooting (but they had 2 other very strong guards, one of which is playing with Nick Weiler-Babb in Germany now). Let's hope he's off tonight.

When you have a player like Powell, you have to assume he's going to go get his. Now, don't let him shoot at free will and don't give him anything open, but make it tough that he has to spend a ton of energy and shots to get his 25-30 points. The key will be stopping everyone else. You can't let everyone else on their team go off and have great games either or else it'll be very tough to win.

Its just the new trend. Growing up everyone wore baggy shorts like Iverson; pretty much the opposite now.

In the three games (MSU/Oregon/SMiss) I've watched SH this year, the same pattern seems to happen. Powell absolutely looks like the best player on the court for 3/4's of the game and can't miss (this part less so against SMiss). When he's on, he plays a lot like the Northern Illinois guard we played against. He has the explosiveness to get by people, finish in the lane, hit step back three's and can hit from just about anywhere on the court. At this point in the game, you can be playing amazing defense and he'll still score (somewhat like Petty last night).

However, when he loses his legs (seemed to be the case most of the game last night), he can actually be a liability to his team. His step back three's are just a tiny bit off, but he'll still keep shooting them (that's what shooter's/scorer's do). SH relies on him in crunch time and if he's missing, they can go on long scoring droughts at the end of the game.

So, I wonder if we rotate as many different good defenders at him as possible (likely Nixon, Bolton and Haliburton with a few minutes of Jackson (I think Powell can shoot over Tre too easily, such that extended minutes likely won't be productive)) forcing him to expend as much energy as possible early in the game to expedite that leg burning exercise knowing that if we stay close, SH will struggle to score at the end of the game if he no longer has his legs.

Along those lines, I've noticed that SH often will have Powell off the ball standing on offense for about 20 seconds to give him a rest. Then he'll explode to the ball and make a quick, explosive scoring play. If they do this, we could adjust our under 10 second defense to hedge out hard when he comes around the screen and sag the weak side defender down in the lane to force either their decent, but not amazing bigs to score contested shots around the rim or their weak side wings to shoot contested three's off of ball reversals.

By doing this some, SH would likely adjust their strategy and get Powell active earlier in the shot clock, which, in turn, would cause him to expend more energy leading back to the primary strategy.

Given the fact that it will be his third game in three days, I could see this strategy paying heightened dividends.

Who knows, but that's my two cents.

So, what do you think of the "BIGS" on their team? I mean, they have four guys taller than our tallest guy. I would figure that would play a huge part in tonight's game, but you (and others that have seen them play) aren't really mentioning the size advantage. Yesterday we benefited from Bama playing the same quick pace, non-half court type game that we feed off of. With that many big guys, it has to be a slower pace game and would figure those bigs would really complicate things for our O.

Seton Hall likes to play at a fast pace and take lots of shots. They'll throw it into the paint here and again, but their bread and butter is getting the ball into Powell's hands and letting him make a play.
