I agree with pretty much all of this, except maybe being a little shallow on Griffin (but I totally get why). He provides a ton of energy and disruptive effort out there in bursts, which is ideal for a guy off the bench. His aggression is duly noted.

However, I have to admit that I don't see much of a role for him past that... right now. I'm hoping to see more of him and identify a particularly useful skill to put out there. Right now, he just seems to be good-ish at most things, but doesn't really excel at anything. I view him and TLew basically the same in that regard.

That is fine for the 8th or 9th man in the rotation, which he is right now.

I agree that Griffin needs to find something to distinguish himself, though. He is kind of that "Mario" character right now from classic Nintendo games.

He has no real weaknesses, but no real strengths, either.

But we are trending towards a rotation something like this...

Haliburton
Bolton
Nixon
Jacobson
Conditt
---
Jackson
Lewis
Young

...which is a marked improvement, particularly when that 4 spot is more more about a fourth guard than trying to keep Jacobson out there too long.

Okay general thoughts, player by player --

Nixon = played how he should... 2/7 from the field, maybe a little bit too much shot-taking on his part for my tastes, including 0/3 from three, but he mostly concentrated on defense and was taking admittedly good looks, so he was alright tonight

I'd be interested in seeing how many shots Nixon takes in the first 3 minutes of games. Our offense usually slugs along to start for whatever reason, and it seems like the ball will end up in Nixon's hands with the the shot clock running down. That is the next step for Haliburton, or maybe Bolton. Get going early then get everyone involved.

Okay general thoughts, player by player --

Haliburton = "only" played 33 minutes tonight, yet still scored 15 on 6/10 shooting and 3/6 from the line... the guy is just a monster and can win games by himself, but I was glad to see the team play well without him on the floor this time

Bolton = 23 points on 10/17 shooting and 3/8 from three, maybe his best game as a Cyclone so far, had 6 assists to 2 turnovers... I still think we need an immediately-eligible PG for next year, but Bolton might have a future there

Jackson = also probably his best game as a Cyclone so far, went 4/6 from the field (and 4/5 from three) in 23 minutes, was pesky as heck on defense... I know he is small, but if he is a 3&D guy *now,* the rest of the season changes

Conditt = a relatively quiet night for him lately, with only 8 points and 1 block in 23 minutes, but we are clearly at our best in a 4/1 with Conditt as the 5

Nixon = played how he should... 2/7 from the field, maybe a little bit too much shot-taking on his part for my tastes, including 0/3 from three, but he mostly concentrated on defense and was taking admittedly good looks, so he was alright tonight

Lewis = I know that first-half is going to set the forums on fire about why he did not play in the second, but I think he got about what he deserves now with 18 minutes out there... him being viable on the court as a 4-man in our 4/1 greatly enhances what the team might be able to do this year, and I like him as a heat check guy for ~20 minutes like that... he was only 3/6 from the field and 1/4 from three, but being able to put up 10 points that quickly makes him finally start to be useful... glad to see the young man make an impact

Jacobson = he is fine as a backup for Conditt, but the less we play Jacobson and Young, the better, and I never want to see those two on the court together again

Young = fine as a secondary backup to Conditt, and I am okay with bursts of Jacobson-Conditt instead of the 4/1, but we really have three guys for one position

Griffin = he was alright tonight, though he did get hosed on defense once or twice that I remember, you have to think Lewis is ahead of him as that 4-man

Grill + walk-ons = great job finishing the game
Spot on

Really solid performance by the fellas. I thought the last 12 minutes of the first half was as good as we have played all season on both ends. Tre Jackson hitting a few is really important moving forward. I thought Zion and Lewis were very active.

I give CSP credit for sticking with the 4 guard lineup. Would have liked to see it out of halftime as well but I know he is loyal to MJ. Some of the same stagnation showed up in the 2H but it appeared as if he introduced a few more sets on the offensive end so hopefully that will continue to expand. Overall I’m really happy for CSP, the teams and the fans. We needed this one. Played fast and didn’t worry about effort mistakes tonight.

Just have to add a comment about the crowd. Sometimes I forget that the majority of fans aren't on this board. Thank the lord for that. If you have read this board over the last couple of weeks, you would have thought there would be 5000 people tonight. But it was darn near a full house. And the crowd was fantastic tonight. The team needed all of us. And it was a really fun game to watch.

There was a lot of good about the game tonight, but I'll say that the best thing was after Oklahoma cut into the lead a bit and I think a lot of us were thinking 'oh ****', the team stretched the lead back out to 20.

Glad to see the cyclones have a comfortable win. TL was the spark in half 1 but wasn’t rewarded with much time in half 2

I wonder if it was because Oklahoma went to a zone and we wanted both Bolton and Jackson out there?

I thought tonight felt more like the Hilton crowd we know. It wasn’t a big Hilton Magic upset, but the crowd was into it. Applauding effort plays, getting loud on defense, getting behind the team when they were in a funk. The way our guys played tonight certainly factors into that.

And I know this has been beaten to death on this board, but Prohm didn’t call one of his infamous ‘run killing’ timeouts tonight. He either waited for the media timeouts or let Kruger call them. And the crowd fed off of that.

The zone was good, finally got some balls defensively. But now we have to see it every night and that has always been the problem. Just way too far along to be figuring out who to play and how you want to play. Still a good win, some positive steps by a lot of guys. Going to be a long week so this was needed. If you had Tcu and famu wins this would be different now.

Great job by everybody, get through this week without anybody getting hurt and try to feast on that lower half of the conference. Might have a shot at tech, they aren’t going to score enough to put us away early, so who knows.

Agreed. Would even go so far as to say Jackson is a better version of Nixon right now - good D, but with shooting ability and without the ball sticking when he gets it. It really was something to behold what good things happened when Nixon was removed from the lineup and his shots were being taken by Lewis and Jackson.

I’m hopeful the staff has Jackson eating into Nixon’s minutes, though I’m doubtful he gets a start this season.

Nice win by the fellas tonight, much needed but still great to get. What a strong finish to the first half. I did start to get a little nervous when OU narrowed it down to 13, but a nice run by the men got us back to the 20 pt mark to ride out to the finish.

Nice crowd on hand there were holes in it but not bad really (maybe a 1,000 empty seats). The crowd responded well when we needed to and had something going on the court to support. Congrats to the team for a nice win on a chilly evening.

I don't think the stupid timeouts are crowd killing, but I'll never win that argument with the crowd on here.

But I agree with your comments about the crowd. I almost got emotional because that's what Hilton Magic is. Sure it is the big wins against great teams and the big comebacks. But it is also 13,000 fans who show up to games and cheer on the team on nothing more than faith that it has to get better. I have no idea what happens the rest of the year, but tonight was fun.

I agree with a lot of this. Although, I will say that I didn't think Nixon was bad tonight. I know he was 2-7, but early in the game when we were struggling a bit, he was the only one willing to take a ******* shot. It's been that way all season.
