The city unbolted the rims from the basketball hoops in the park behind my house to keep people from playing.
Please go out there and shoot hoops. I'd love to hear about the reactions.

*Compares numbers between the two and the respective measures taken by each*

Looks like the train wreck has happened in NYC. We all know who you are saying got ahead of it, but the details tell a different story.

In fairness, I think this says more about urban vs rural differences, than which leader got a better answer.

I also think that the best answer for NYC is not the same as the best answer for Iowa (or upstate, rural NY for that matter).

Still going up. I think 102 is our highest daily total.

As you have more infected you can be slowing down the rate of transmission and unless you are absolutely crushing it your absolute number of cases you add per day are likely to be larger for a while. Again, the trend is good. About 1.5 weeks ago we had a day or two where new number of cases grew by over 30%. Now we are around the 10% mark.

Over the past five days or so the "currently hospitalized" has grown from about 80-104. That's a pretty slow rate, and one that says we SHOULD be able to stay within hospital capacity, which is the critical factor in death rate. Obviously not out of the woods, but with tightened measures I think we are on the right track. Considering how long it takes to recover from this for most people and when most cases started occurring, I think we will see a little bit of a surge in recoveries. Hopefully between those factors we can get that "currently hospitalized" to level off and start coming down.

My expectation is that we see that number creep up for a while yet. Maybe another week or two before it starts to come down. I also expect a secondary round once we open things up again this summer.

I was happy they showed the data they're using today and gave updates on all the regions. Reynolds is still talking in circles when asked questions regarding what would be the next step if one of these regions ends up hitting a 10. I honestly don't know if they truly know what the answer to that question would be. She also completely dodged the question when asked specifically why she won't call it a SIP, which wasn't surprising.

I’m also curious what happens when a region hits 10. I think the governor has over thought a lot of things and has created a cluster **** with the data and metrics system. Could have just called for a SIP a week ago and it all would have been done with. Wouldn’t have had to dealt with the crazy media questions and angry citizens.

I still think if one hits the ten mark we will see the draconian measures such as you can’t leave your house other than to get food. So even essential workplaces get shut down.

I still find it odd she's so caught up on the name, even though Fauci directly admitted that what she's doing is functionally the same as a SIP. Just seems stupid, or petty, or misleading...something. I'm not exactly sure what to make of it. Oh well.

Well Polk county region and Linn county region are both on the verge of a 10. Which I think may happen within a week.

I highly doubt that happens, but if it does, she's one of the most incompetent governors I've seen. You don't go from incrementally mandating things to then creating a lockdown like Wuhan because your point system got to a level you never thought it would. If she'd do that it would be clear she cannot handle any sort of tough situation.

It's baffling at this point. It's now clear there's an underlying reason as to why she's not, but no one knows that reason and will likely never know.

Probably because it's not a SIP. She should just say that and be done with it.

Wait, I've been hearing from numerous posters on here as well as our governor saying it essentially mirrors what other states are doing..

It does but other states aren’t really doing a shelter in place.

That’s been an issue for a long time. Other states are using the term inaccurately and then the pressure is for other states to use it inaccurately too.
