Sometimes freshmen aren't ready. He'd be a project and we have the room. If nothing else he'd be a practice body.
You don’t think we can do better than a practice body?

I have no idea on him. I remember we wanted him, but he also was a spring recruit, so who knows. Assuming he has to sit, there would seem to be better bets.jmo

I have a feeling Jalen Coleman-Lands wants to play fairly close to home. He's from Indianapolis. He played first at Illinois which was 3 hours away from home. Then Depaul which was also 3 hours. Michigan is 4 hours, Iowa State 7.

Though he was a spring recruit the staff recruited Nadolny hard from Oct/Nov and was considered a bit of a lock to ISU until April when TT swooped in after the NC game.
Clarence had HM offers from TT, TCU, WV and Georgetown so he is a legit HM talent that was buried by a talented TT upperclassman.
If CN were to transfer I think he's fairly likely Prohm would contact him. Bit similar to the Tyler Harris situation.

Way up there
I wouldn't be super excited about Nadolny as an immediate guy but a sit out year +3 might be worth it. The only thing I don't like about that would be adding another player to the incoming class. Basically with Bolton, Harris, Johnson and Jackson ahead of them, there would be a log jam at the guard/wing spot. Prohm likes to play a short bench, not sure he could keep everyone happy enough to stick around. Then we'd be stuck in the same cycle that got us rosters like 17/18 and 19/20.

Michigan's backcourt right now is.

Franz Wagner-6'9 So SF/SG-11.6 ppg
Eli Brooks-6'1 Sr CG-10.6 ppg
Adrien Nunez-6'6 Jr G-2.0 ppg

Mike Smith-5'11 RS/Sr PG(grad transfer from Columbia)-22.8 ppg
Zeb Jackson-6'2 Fr SG-Ranked 79th by 247
Jace Howard-6'8 Fr SF-Ranked 367th by 247.

Compared to ours

Rasir Bolton-6'3 Jr G-14.7 ppg
Tre Jackson-6'1 So G-4.3 ppg

Javan Johnson-6'6 RS/Jr SF(sit out transfer from Troy)-10.4 ppg
Dudley Blackwell-6'6 Fr SF-Ranked 158th by 247
Darlinstone Dubar-6'6 Fr SG-Ranked 165th by 247
Jaden Walker-6'5 Fr PG-Ranked 307th by 247.

Not even sure Coleman-Lands starts at Michigan if he goes there. Pretty sure they would start Smith, Brooks, Wagner. He'd start here for sure in front of Jackson or Johnson imo.

I agree. I think the kid has potential. He got buried by transfers on Tech depth chart. I don't think he is a Grill. Grill got playing time because we had nobody else. I think CN would have got Grill's playing time and showed some stuff for the future.

I've seen some lack luster thoughts on ISU adding JC-L and he probably hasn't lived up to his high school hype but has been a solid to good player at Illinois and DePaul. Prohm has had a lot of success with combo guards and getting the most out of their game. ISU could use one more true scoring threat to pair and ease the burden on Bolton. If JC-L is looking to boost his professional prospects I think ISU would be the best of his top 5 options IMO.

Harris may be the reason we wouldn’t take him imo. Two redshirting uncertainties isn’t a luxury this staff may be able to afford.

He would be our best offensive player imo.

I can’t say that I’m sold on JCL simply by looking at his numbers (not the greatest shooter, and not good assist/TO ratio, not a great rebounding guard, etc...). I think the thing that maybe stands out to me is he got better as the season went on last season and had some pretty good games a against good competition. We definitely need someone to help with pg duties next year but I’m not sure JCL moves the needle there. I’d love to be proved wrong there but that’s just my two cents.

JCL would have been a great GT addition last year.

Still a good addition if we’re lucky enough to land him. Any trepidation over JCL is due to what he’s not imo. We need pgs or combo guards, and he seems like a wing.

I hope we can get JCL, however his shooting % doesn't scream efficiency which is concerning.

I totally understand the concerns and ideally a true PG would help the team more but not sure there is a option better than JC-L on the grad transfer market now. There would still be 2 scholly's open if JC-L were to come to Ames in case a GT PG became available later they could still add. JC-L was considerd a 4 star PG in high school perhaps Prohm could get him to show those skills at ISU? (not impossible) If nothing else he could share the duties with Bolton/Tre/Walder and be serviceable back court.

JCL while certainly can improve his shot selection and would like to see him go from 33% from 3...to more like 36%+..

Have feeling his offensive flaws more to do with system he was in and coaching..

but it’s hard to deny he’s a 6’4 SG who is capable of having big games vs top competition..

iowa- 17 pts
Texas tech- 18pts
Seton Hall - 14 pts
Butler- 20 pts
Xavier- 17 pts
Nova- 17 pts

Etc..

We could do a lot worse..

As far as JCL, I'm excited about him, but I'm from IL and have followed his a little because of it, always felt like he has had more talent than production, maybe right system can get the most out of him (I have zero faith in DePaul to put him in the best spots....) He shot really well on high volume as true freshman not sure why that dipped through his career exactly. Ultimately even if hes like a 35% 3pt shooter I think hes a solid overall player capable of having big scoring nights and has good size I think he would certainly be an important player for ISU next year even if he isn't our best player but I think his floor with ISU would be a solid role player and hopefully much much better.

As for Mac McClung, I'm curious to see where he goes, doubt we get him and I definitely would take him but from the little bit that I've watched of him, I think hes more hype than substance. Seems to be out of control a lot to me and a selfish player. He's got a ton of athleticism and makes some highlight plays but not sure he makes a ton of winning plays necessarily, but again I'm sure especially with the feedback he got that is something he will be actively trying to change.
