As I’ve been saying, what Iowa’s stats are don’t really matter when it comes to playing games. Look at Texas and Oklahoma.

Ultimately most of the current stats don't matter at all in this particular decision at all. The whole point is that large events are the highest risk for super spreader events and even if your numbers are low, not holding high risk events is how you keep them that way and avoid kicking off exponential growth again.

This is also why the 'wait until August to decide' crowd just shows their ignorance. There is no variable in this decision that will change between now and then.

Offensive & Defensive linemen may be considered high-risk because players at those positions have higher body-mass indexes (BMI)

According to the Centers for Disease Control, a BMI of 40 qualifies someone as severely obese and puts them “at higher risk for complications from COVID-19.” For an adult male, that translates to someone who is 6-3, 320 pounds. In last year’s national championship game, the average size of the starting offensive linemen was 6-4, 325 pounds for Clemson and 6-4, 321 pounds for LSU.

I'm a Vikings fan and through all this talk of COVID-19 I can't help but think about Korey Stringer who was an OL that passed away during training camp due to complications of heat stroke. That sent a wake-up call throughout all levels of football to re-evaluate hydration and sun-exposure policies for practices. I think CFB is taking a very proactive approach but the fact is that this is a fatal illness - you don't want to be the school that has a player that is considered high-risk get sick and then have complications.

Yeah, that's what I was originally thinking. Then I started thinking about entering, exiting, using the restrooms...

Everyone has to make their own decision for sure. I feel like a lot of it can be managed if you are not older or have pre-existing conditions. Time your entry (either early or late) so that you are not standing in a big crowd at the gates. Sit somewhere away from where most of the spectators are sitting. Avoid the bathroom before the game, between quarters, at half. And obviously wear a mask. That's at least what I'm planning. Remember, we are looking at less than 50% capacity, so waiting in line anywhere is not going to be very likely.

We're older but not "elderly" (65) and both have compromised lungs (me from asthma, him from a 2-year battle with histoplasmosis). Our outlook is probably more cautious than that of a younger person with good health.

I wonder sometimes if those folks who think it is an "inconvenience" to wear a mask to help protect others realize they may face similar choices as they age?

Back to the original topic.

I'm hearing that there is a strong possibility that face coverings will be required in the stadium and that the possibility of no tailgating is being evaluated.

Honestly, ANYTHING to be able to watch the game. No tailgating? Fine, i'll drink a couple roadies in the car. Have to wear a mask? Well call me Batman, no problem.

I'm not trying to sound like an a**, but to those who are adamant on not wearing a mask.. WHO CARES? You are not even going to care once the game starts. Also, to the people who scream at others for their mask being on wrong or not having it on for one second.. take a breath and understand their might be a good reason for them not wearing it 100% properly at that exact moment.

No. There's almost certainly no good reason for them not to wear it and wear it properly.

Gotcha. So if I have an itch, have shortness of breath for some reason, have to take a drink of water, etc, I have to keep it on? I'm not saying you should wear it improperly the entire time because it defeats the purpose, I'm saying the one time I do decide to adjust it or something, people don't need to go crazy.

Well, that's wildly defensive. Nobody would fault the taking a drink.
Itching, sure, that can wait. Touch your face at home if you have to.
Shortness of breath? Really? Maybe you're not in shape for the hard work of sitting in the stands.

Those were examples that I was talking about.. Obviously if someone is wearing it wrong for a long period of time, it's a problem. Doing something for one second doesn't have to be critiqued or equate to wanting / unknowingly trying to kill everyone.

Also, you don't have to be out of shape to have shortness of breath, or trouble breathing in general. People that have anxiety (like myself), have it happen quite often actually, and when I wear a mask there are times I need to take a breath of fresh air for one second to help out with that.
