Hope Jamie and Co are ready for the media onslaught. Yahoo already picked this up and it's gaining on Twitter. I personally am not sure having fans there is a good idea, but I'm not in Ames, and I am not privy to daily COVID data, etc. Seems risky to me.
I understand its not a consistent message from the state closing down bars with outdoor patios. I agree they should be allowed to stay open.

"Risky" is the operative word here. Theoretically, being outdoors along with social distancing and masks should be relatively okay, and keep these games from being weekly super-spreader events, but that's assuming people comply (extremely doubtful) and rules are enforced (also doubtful). Either way, it's definitely creating risk.
This is why I think while intentions and regulations are all fine and good, but the chances of being successful are extremely slim to me...no matter how strong the measures are. Is there an event so far this large that has NOT ended up being a COVID spreader?
It seems like the state of Iowa has tried to keep businesses open but unfortunately it’s Iowa’s turn to pop up in this game of whack-a-mole. And at some point, life just isn’t fair to businesses just like it isn’t fair to people.
Their news has been in on some big sports stories before.
Some businesses just won't bounce back unless we truly get this thing under control. Bars, theaters, concerts, sports, things like that. Just having them open isn't enough to keep them profitable, if the virus levels increase people won't go even if a governor has an "always open" strategy.
I want to visit my older family and not worry. I'm not going to go to baseball/football/basketball games with 10s of thousands and then go see them afterwards. Same for crowded indoor bars. Same for movie theaters (even though my livelihood depends on that one).
If we had the #s some other countries had that may be a different story, I don't know for sure.
My hope for this ISU football news specifically is that the advantage of being outside is even greater than has been reported. It's the only way I can see this as remotely wise.
We should’ve just taken the hit back in the spring, no doubt. I went to a wedding with 60 people two weeks ago and at least eight people got it, all with symptoms including the groom and the bride’s father. It’s no joke, and the UV rays from sunlight aren’t stopping it.

My friend from Chicago just postponed his Oct Arizona wedding. Couldn't handle exposing older relatives, plus he's a doctor and maybe there's some responsibility there as well.
Do you feel like you avoided it because you behaved differently? I mean who really knows but curious if you were cautious and others were hanging on each other drunk with no mask etc...it's hard to blame people acting that way at a wedding. 8/60 is really quite a lot.
Oh no, I just got lucky. I slept on the bride and grooms couch that night and four people sleeping in that house ended up with covid.

THIS number is arbitrary. You do have to have a ticket. No one that has a ticket will get turned away. I expect half that many, if the weather is good.
If you pay attention to how Jamie runs the show, his move here shouldn’t be a total surprise.
It’s about where people place value. They don’t place value, for whatever the array of reasons, on masks in social situations in which there is no reward to them for doing so. There is a big reward for wearing, or value, them so they will slap them on.
What would be really interesting is to get data on the number mask wearing fans leaving the stadium after a win vs after a loss. If people inherently don’t value them, then after a loss I would guess many will say f*ck this and take it off to walk to their car.
