No matter what the numbers say, it will be incredibly difficult to allow fans to future games. It will not be safe until there is a vaccine is what this decision is saying in my opinion.

false. This decision says it is not safe to have more fans (as a percent of capacity) than any other school when the city you are in has high cases.

the cases will level off and start to drop and I’m guessing 10,000-15,000 will be in attendance in October.

This already exists, an outdoor venue at less than half capacity with all of the mitigation put in place poses miniscule risk. Everyone knows the risks and has their own personal beliefs on what the "facts" are, it's not like we are being "tricked into attending a football game.

but by people going, they will then go out into the community and spread things. I had already decided that if I went I was going to completely self isolate for the following two weeks—no grocery store, nothing. Were you?

That is like if I were to say the sky is purple. I know people are going to call me an idiot. Why would them calling me an idiot cause me to change my opinion. The criticism isn’t on the decision for no fans. The criticism is on either caving to public pressure or not knowing the public pressure. Either is a sign of a weak leader.

If facts changed that would be one thing. Facts have frankly gotten better since Monday as Monday was the peak.

This is a terrible analogy and doesn't fit here at all. If there was a right or wrong answer, that's one thing. But there isn't - this is a grey area and subjective unlike the sky color example.

So because cases drop 10% it will then be safe? People going to the game are not hanging around the quarantine dorms. COVID is in Ames already, so it will not be brought in. I find it hard to understand why a large number would take it with them if they did not already have it coming in.

i don’t know either. I do know that I trust scientists. Most of whom think big groups is a bad idea.

No but other people's stupidity impact the rest of us. This logic works if you are in a bubble and your decisions only impact you. But that doesn't work here. We have to protect other people from those people who "have their own personal beliefs" because those beliefs don't like up with facts, science, and data.

I'm disappointed we are here, but I don't disagree with the decision. I don't think this closes the door on some games with some fans. The real question is how many of both.

No. I have been interacting with the public nonstop all year just like pre-COVID. I have dealt with many people who have had the virus, I practice good hygiene and wear a mask everywhere it is required because I know some people are frightened of it. I am tired of all of the fear mongering and was proud that my university was pushing the proverbial envelope. I was just at the U of I hospital this morning wearing Cyclone garb and could not believe the positive comments I received. Sadly many on this board will label anyone that does not live in fear as "the problem." They only support one narrative.

I agree there isn’t a clear right answer but I was trying to illustrate an example where you knew you were going to be ridiculed. This would have gone infinitely better if they just said no fans.

Do you know if you have had Covid and potentially spread it?

Not if you felt sick.

If you had the virus, and potentially spread it.

Those are two different things.

Family members residing within my home have been tested 4 times in the last 3 months due to exposures and all have been negative. I have not been tested but assume if they are negative so am I. ( and alarson will post his dumb rating again, I get it you are never going to like anything I say)

Well just be honest and say you weren’t going to go. I mean why would you? If you felt you had to resort to the measures you mentioned it would be foolish to even consider attending.

Because I'm a stupid fan?!!? My thought process was that I was OK with putting myself at risk, but not putting other people at risk due to my decision.

It’s such a simple concept that it seems like so many either cannot, or chose not to comprehend. It is about us not you. Just shows a selfish disregard for fellow citizens.
