I'm optimistic that ISU will win, but this is KSU. It will be a maze of torment for 3+ hours and rarely does Iowa State happen to do things the easy way. :(

This is exactly what Campbell was brought here to do. Meaningful games in November. Rhoads had at least 1 "Big 12 north title goes through Ames" in November type of game, but that was essentially a mirage. ISU can beat anyone in this conference, but with what we've seen the last few years, the margin for error will typically be thin in many games. CMC has established himself as an 8-4 type coach right now. I couldn't be happier about that. And if you can consistently go 8-4 you'll be due for a few breaks that can flip up to 10-2.

ISU may also lose the next 2 and finish 6-4 and that would feel a lot like last year. These are good times right now. Enjoy the journey. Savor the wins. Relish the fight. Onward to Dallas!
It is wonderful to be in real contention for the Big 12 Championship game, and thinking that, worst case scenario, we finish 5-5.

Such a change from years past...

Vaughn is the only player they have that scares me. Guy is dangerous in the open field.

Moore is a solid tight end, doesn’t really strike fear.

KSU scares me because they can plod along and look very average and then they get a long gainer for a TD out of their offense, defense or special teams.

They are one of those teams that wins a lot of games ugly.

I have been watching some of K State most recent games, and their running QB worries me. Our 3 front struggles with running QB's especially when they scramble. (Sanders, Duggan, Columbi, and Rattler. Bottling him and the small running back up and scoring points after stops will be key for us, as I don't think they are built to come from behind on offense.

My biggest issue with Purdy when he is under pressure is two fold. First, he doesn't recognize it pre-snap, which could be because the offense doesn't give him that ability. Second, he doesn't know where his answers are for the pressure that's being brought. Just tries to force the ball to Charlie. He should be able to audible routes or know where his answers are I.E back out of backfield. I will say this about Brewer; on the play that we all out blitzed, specifically the play that White slipped on. He knew what was coming. He knew where his answer was for the pressure and he hit it. Our o line also is terrible at recognizing pressure and stunts.

Most times I can't decide whether they don't watch any film, or they just ignore it. Purdy is going to have understand, there will be times when he has to throw the ball in the stands or take a sack. I am not sure he can do that.

We actually did a pretty good job of keeping Rattler in check. He had 9 rushes for 20 yards. I know he had a TD, but an occasional scramble happens from time to time. I don't read much into Duggan or Columbi considering we'd played 1/2 a game against a different QB in the TCU game and almost 90% of the game against TTU's starter.

The difference between K-State and some of those other teams is that K-State doesn't want to throw the ball much with him unless they absolutely have to. He's not accurate at all, especially down the field, and is prone to throwing it into double coverage a lot. I hope we spy him all game long and bring late pressure. The late pressure will affect him because he likes to take off early.

ISU will spy on Howard with Rose or another LBer. I agree, he is a lousy passer for the most part and that is what you want to force him to do. He has been somewhat successful with QB draws, so that is something ISU will need to be ready for. Running QBs have not hurt the Clone defense this year as much as they have in the past, and with a couple weeks to prepare I think JH will have something special to stop KSU.

I think that I would have Rose spy the QB all game. He would put some hits on him. Then leave Young as primary responsibility for Vaughn. If Isheem gets some clean hits, Vaughn is not going to be very productive later in the game.

I seem to recall that against OU, Heacock was dropping Will McDonald to spy Rattler.

I could be off on that.

6 days out still but looks like high 40's and rain and a bit breezy for Gameday. Think that would probably favor K-State style more.
