I'm not worried about the team's focus. While the future for the team is bright, a Big 12 championship is not easy to achieve, and one never knows when the opportunity will be available again.

Do it now.

It seems like they are living to play the games right now from quotes.

There will be a shake up. Clemson and ND will play again, A&M won’t play in the conference championship. Outside shot at Alabama upset. Does Ohio State make it with their resume?
It’ll be a wild couple of weeks.

This weekend, Texas A&M plays at Auburn, Florida plays at Tennessee, Ohio State plays at Michigan State, and Clemson plays at Virginia Tech. Chance for some upsets there with highly ranked teams playing on the road against storied programs having down years.

Dordt and Michigan State may be a tight game. I wouldn’t count on OSU having any trouble.

This team isn’t going to give up, it may be an outside shot, but they know they aren’t eliminated from the playoffs yet. Iowa State and Oklahoma can move up even more before the title game is even played.

I wouldn't put OU in the league game just yet. I know it's probable.......but they still have to win AT West Virginia. Now I don't know what frame of mind WVU will be in if we beat them, but winning there won't be easy for the Sooners. And OSU finishes with TCU and Baylor on the road. It wouldn't shock me if OU gets upset by WVU and we end up playing OSU.

It seems like this team flipped a switch at halftime of the Baylor game. They know they are the best team on the field and play like it. Crazy things can always happen but I don’t think this team comes out flat or unfocused Saturday.

Here are some things we're playing for:

  • An 8-1 conference record and sole possession of first place
  • A spot in the Big 12 championship game and a chance at our first conference title since 1912
  • A spot in a NY6 bowl, potentially even if we were to lose the Big 12 championship game
  • A chance to finish ranked in the top five if we can win out
  • A outside shot at the playoff if some teams ahead of us get upset

Congratulations Capt. Obvious. ;)

WVU is 5-3. Their best win is against 4-4 TCU. The lost to Texas, OSU and TEXAS TECH. They squeaked by Baylor. Someone help me understand why people are so worried about them. I’m not saying we can’t lose. Anything can happen. But I can’t understand what some people are seeing that has got them so nervous.

They haven't been blown out by anyone. The Texas and Texas Tech games could have gone either way.

They are #4 in the nation in total defense, which matters unless you think Big 12 offenses suck other than Iowa State and Oklahoma. The only teams ahead of them are Wisconsin (who has only played three games), Marshall, and San Diego State.

They have the top ranked pass defense in the country.

They have the Big 12's second leading rusher and the #2 passing offense in the conference. Their QB Doege's passer rating is 138.41 compared to 139.30 for Purdy.

The only team to outgain them so far this year was Texas by only three yards.

They're a legitimately good team. If we don't play well, we could very well lose.

The refs aided Texas in their game with them. That game easily could have gone the other way. Granted our Baylor game was very self inflicted struggles, We did need a Mike Rose pick in the endzone so one could say we squeaked by them too.

It took the Cubs 108 to finally win another World Series from 1908 to 2016, and we are at 108 years since Iowa State last won a football conference championship. If anyone keeps track of those things.

I've rarely been less worried about a game. WVU is a good team but if we aren't ready to play and beat them then we aren't ready for the spoils.

Granted, we can get the spoils by losing but the team will be more embarrassed than I will be.

Put the shoe on the other foot. If ISU was 5-3 (with WVU's resume) and WVU was 7-2 (with ISU's resume), we'd damn sure think Iowa State had a chance to win @ West Virginia.
