Can we pull a DePaul when we get off the bus in Iowa City?

I'm excited for this game. We've got nothing to lose. Fully expecting a loss, so if our guys show something that gives us hope for the rest of the season, I'll be happy. Iowa has the pressure to not just win, but take it to us and blow us out. I'm hoping we can at least stick around long enough into the 2nd half that we put a little doubt in their mind about how great they are. Maybe they'll remember they didn't add any pieces to a team that lost 11 games last season.

I am not a fan of Fran, wouldn't want my kids to play for him.

However, I can respect the guy.

He managed to find a HM school to make him rich, and coach his kids at the same time.

He's found a strategy of red-shirting unathletic shooters, grabbing in-state players who are lifelong hawks, and developing the under the radar kid into a legit player (aaron white, luka garza).

His team can shoot, and they play hard, play together.

And what CW said in his podcast is so true...Iowa players HATE us, which is what a rivalry is all about.

Not going to be pretty for the soft-clones tonight!
So in some way you’re saying that recruiting kids that can actually play the game is a better recipe for winning than rolling out athletic bricklayers. Strange, since CFs mocking of Iowa recruits assured me what we are seeing could never happen.

Just have to double Garza and pray. Unfortunately they aren’t ISU and are actual functional shooters.

ISU will be on an 8-0 run. That much is guaranteed. Prohm always utilizing those TO's to settle down his team when they are on a run.
There’s no way in hell ISU can stop Iowa for the number of possessions it will take this ISU team to get to 8 points. Maybe when Iowa gets the walk ons in.

I know this is probably a futile exercise, but is doubling Garza the right strategy?

We started off the game last year doubling him, but that ultimately just left Bozo/Weezy/Fredrick open for 3. Those guys don’t miss much.

Kind of a “pick your poison” approach, but I’m curious to see what the strategy is tonight

CF posters have assured me that Frederick and Jorbo are terrible, so there should be nothing to worry about.

I guess they have to mix it up a little. I’d say double him at least enough to try to make him work and get uncomfortable.

I’d actually say trying to turn the game into chaos and a track meet is about the only hope.

I’m hoping to see guys like Johnson/JCL/Bolton at least try to drive on Garza and get him into foul trouble to disrupt their gameplan. Hard to see that happening, but what do you have to lose?

They want a shoot out. They will let you have those so Garza stays in a flow. Slow it down and move the ball a lot on offense. Harder to shuffle on defense than just to run up and down the court.

I'm starting to understand how Iowa fans felt during the Todd Lickliter era. My apathy for ISU basketball is at an all-time high.

But I'll still watch. Punishment.
