TO ANYONE BAD MOUTHING JAKE SULLIVAN..............SHUT IT!!

Listen to the guy speak. What a class act. He is doing what is in the best interest of his kid. He bled Cardinal and Gold when he played, but that doesn't mean he should not do what is best for Harrison

Do you agree or disagree with this statement: Iowa State University owes more to Jake Sullivan than Jake Sullivan owes to Iowa State University.

Jake isn't at Iowa State anymore. He doesn't owe us anything. On the same note, Iowa State doesn't owe Jake anything.

My question is if Harrison wants to play with the best then why didn't he play for another AAU team? Nothing against Jakes program as I'm quite sure it is good but there has to be better AAU programs around the country.

I think both gave great things to each other. Iowa State gave Sullivan an education and a chance to play D1 basketball. Sullivan gave Iowa State a very good basketball player, who played his heart out, stuck w/ us during the Eustachy debacle, and represented us in a very good way.

I would say neither owes anything. It sure would be nice though if we did have some give and take. In the end, it is Harrison Barnes decision to commit to Iowa State....which he will!!!

I was SHOCKED to hear Jake say that when Eric May more or less came to Jake and asked if he should go to Iowa or Iowa State, Jake told him Iowa would be a good fit for him. That kind of tells me he has something against McDermott...

What's wrong with that? Maybe he truly thought that he would be better off at Iowa with the type of player he is and the type of system that is run there.

Jake is not a cheerleader for Iowa State. He is there to be a guide in the best interests of the players he coaches.

I couldn't agree with that statement more, my daughter was friends with him while he attended ISU, and I got to meet him a couple of times. Never met a college guy, that I thought was more together, he worked harder for ISU than anyone else on the team, I am dissapointed in some of the comments made about him on this board.

This is hilarious. You're "shocked" that Jake told a mediocre, borderline D-I player that he'd fit better at Iowa rather than Iowa State?:biglaugh:

That tells me a whole bunch more about how Jake sees the state of the two programs than anything. :skeptical:

Does anyone really think that McD wouldve taken May right now/a few months ago when he committed to Iowa? I think we have a lot bigger fish to go after than him. Im sure hes a great HS player, but he would be way undersized for college. He might be Clinton Mann minus 3 inches. Plus he probably would fit into Iowas system better than ours, i think Jake was actually helping out ISU by steering him towards Iowa.

I don't follow recruiting at all, but Jake made it sound like both schools were offering May, which means that McDermott and staff saw value in him. Rumors have been flying on this site for a good year now that Jake does not like McDermott, and to me, by Jake telling May to go to Iowa, that furthers the rumor. If that's the case, it will hurt us in getting Barnes.

Good interview...I agree that no one should be bad mouthing Jake on this thread or any other. He wants whats best for the kids. That being said I would say there is about a 5% chance we land Barnes after hearing that interview.

I do not believe there is any tiff between Jake and McD. Jake has made it clear however, from his own mouth, that he is not a big fan of the style of basketball Coach McD runs. Of course any AAU coach is not going to be a fan of McD's style. Offense prevails in AAU, and offense only. I do not think this can even be argued. I think this is the root of the so called "issue" between the two. Jake cares about offense as that is what gets kids recruited, and lets be honest, the current ISU b-ball offense is not very flattering. (Of course an offense is only as good as the guys running it)

I guess I am a little more selfish and would hope Jake would try and drift talent to his alma mater in hopes that his alma mater would become a great team. Plus you would think it would be more beneficial to the All Iowa Attack, which is based out of Ames, to have some of these kids playing college basketball in Ames.

None the less, I think it furthers the argument that Jake has something against McDermott and/or his system, and if that is the case, it will have an effect on any AAU player brought up through the All Iowa Attack, including Barnes.

When did I miss that Barnes announced that Jake Sullivan would be making his college choice for him??

Barnes isn't dumb, he will go where he wants to go.

Jake went on a recruiting visit with Barnes to Florida, so I would think Jake will have some influence in his decision...it might not be a lot, but he will have some.

I guess I have the cardinal and gold glasses on because I was encouraged when Jake mentioned the addition of Colvin to the team, and I think I heard Jake become excited over that. I also realize he said that Harrison has said he wants to be the best and play with the best.
I couldn't help but feel and think, that Jake has changed his opinion somewhat from last years comments about the program. He seemed to intimate that he can see that McD would change his style with the change in talent, (higher scoring, running) and to him (Jake) that was a good thing. Just a thought and opinion of course.
Go Cyclones.

Take a look at our roster. Where exactly do you see room for a 6-4 wing like May? Just curious...

Larry's offense post Tinsley wasn't all that exciting and frankly Stinson outshined Jake under Morgan's more open style so I find it a bit ironic that he wouldn't be a fan of the type of offense that he had success in.

I would sincerely hope that Jake would stay neutral and let Barnes make up his own mind...And its not like he's the only influence here....Mom, high school coach, Jake...

Like I said, I don't pay attention to recruiting. Jake said that both ISU and Iowa were going after May, and May asked for Jake's input on the two schools.

If ISU was going after May, as Jake stated, then I am guessing they had a spot for him at that time.

It was a pretty good interview by Jake, he avoided Marty's bait well. I didn't get much from him as far as HB's plans, I really did believe him that it is still completely up in the air. That's why I think it is so important for us to have a whiff of success this year, instead of just a whiff. JS did seem pleased with the Colvin get, as relates to Harrison.

One thing I want to say, is I am tired of Marty saying that ISU should give HB's mom a nice raise, or maybe she'll get a "nice part-time job somewhere". For Marty to even think ISU would do anything like that, shows just how stupid he is. I know ISU does not have full control over what a booster might do, but I would think 99.9% of our boosters would know better than to get her "used car sales" job like Bomar at OU. Besides, after a year or two of college and a first-round signing bonus, no one in HB's family will ever have to worry about money, not that they probably do now.

Yesterday I listened to Dumb and dumber a.k.a. M&M, first time in a long time. Anyway, Miller was baiting Tom Wytodanasdjghduhky of the rag to see if ISU has been favoring HB mother via financial means.i.e. pay raises and such if Harrison stays. How those two get anyone to speak with them locally is beyond me.

Back to what someone said earlier in the thread. I love ISU and what it brings to the table, however, a Duke comes knocking or similar and their program is up and the coach is a person of credibility, it will be tough for him to say no. You bet a degree from a place like that means more in the business world than an ISU Business/Finance degree.

I'll say it again that I think things are moving in the correct direction at ISU and our current coach is a man of character. I think those items are keeping us in the game.
