I'm really happy that Allen has played so much and get's to have another year. I believe he got hit by a car and mono in his first couple weeks at ISU, so it was a rough start.

He's definitely been banged up for a good chunk of his career. I'm glad to see him back because he will be a nice bridge to the young guys waiting in line at TE right now. Does not hurt to have an experienced guy in the mix to mentor the young guys another year.

I've been told Charlie is gone unless he hears really, really bad news from his conversations this next week with CMC and his potential agents

Hearing Lawrence White is 50/50 to return.

Jaquon and Josh Bailey are something to watch. No one knows what they want to do
White won’t be coming back..

So which one of you have a reliable source and who's winging it?

I'm just not sure if Allen is an NFL guy so maybe he's just all about the 'more football' route since he's had this experience at ISU.

I think you are right. Just remember a guy with an odd TE number, 43, in there at the end of the season.

Yeah, that's Rus. Rus seems to be a Sam Seonbuchner type--probably a good blocker but will barely catch any passes. Dean seems to be more the pass-catching Kolar replacement.

Not sure what style Hanika will be. If he got any offensive snaps, it was just a few at the end of the KU/KSU/WVU games. I saw him a lot on special teams, though.

He was listed as our 5th best NFL prospect coming into this season: https://247sports.com/college/iowa-...-football-2021-NFL-Draft-prospects-146673510/

I'm guessing he has already has feedback that he won't be drafted but it could still be on the table with another healthy and productive season. He as a huge commitment for this staff as Jim Harbaugh recruited hard: http://www.diehardsport.com/college...ave-sleepover-with-connor-murphy-chase-allen/

And now he’ll be the main guy.

I actually think Soehner might be a more intriguing NFL prospect than Kolar, and I think Kolar will play in the league for a long time. Soehnear has good hands, is a great blocker, and the dude is just a mountain of a man. Kind of feel like we underutilized him this year.

Sean Foster is interesting, I know he had a lot of injuries. And if you told me week 1 I would be saying this I would have said you were nuts. But the last 5 or 6 game, he looked like he was dominating people over there. I think he might be the most improved player from game 1 to game 12 i have ever seen here. I never played at that level so I have no idea what it does to your body, but maybe....I don’t know..if he feels like he could handle it, another year might put him on some draft boards. I might be crazy on that one...just a thought. Don’t know his situation or desire to do it again.

everyone gets an extra year not just seniors

So does it work like this?:
if you get 5 seniors that stay this year - you get 5 extra scholarships. But if 10 decide to stay next year you get 10 extra. it’s gonna be a four year process to wash out.

The limit is still 85.

For counting purposes, 2020 seniors are effectively a "0" in the tally for 2021. That's the only exempt group, and only for next season. Everybody else will count against the 85.

The clerical portion will be left up to the individual schools, but it's probable that everyone will be listed with the same eligibility year in 2021 as they were in 2020. The result will be that over the next few years, you'll likely see more "juniors" recognized on Senior Day -- because those "juniors" will be in year 4 or 5 of their career.

Kene coming back is a huge plus if confirmed he is. He was one of the better kick returners in the Big 12 and we saw how games can turn on kick returns and kick return coverage.

Coaches will play whomever they think gives them the best in each situation at #2RB.

Wonder what happens with J. Brock.

He needs to be on the field.

Wouldn’t see why not. Heard he accepted East West Shrine invite.

There’s a place in the league for blocking specialist TE’s. With his size he could even be a tackle convert.
Did you see him mauling guys Saturday? That dude will play on Sundays.

I doubt Kolar has decided anything yet...not saying he won’t go...but players haven’t even received grade from NFL yet..

it would be premature to announce leaving as a jr without receiving a nfl grade yet.. unless you know you are sure fire 1st or 2nd rd pick..

Kolar right now at best is 3rd rd and could fall into 5th Rd...

you have to weigh the risks...He improves his speed and blocking a little and he could be 2nd rd kid and Top 2-3 TE next year..

Cant blame him either way..great kid.
Being a 3rd-4th round pick is nothing to slouch at. You’re almost guaranteed a roster spot at that point.

Also, this is not a super deep TE class. Charlie has a chance to move up if he tests out well.

This free year stuff is going to turn into a nationwide game of musical chairs.
