The really good players will still go pro to cash in. It will be the questionable draft players that may move.

No one is sneezing at $1.4 million. It isn’t a go now and get $1.4 million or come back and get nothing. It is a go and get $1.4 million or come back and likely still at least get $1.4 million. The question is which choice gives a better chance for making it in the NFL. Depending on his grade it could be coming back or it could be going.
I think the issue is will he be able to further boost his stock at Iowa State enough to justify the risk of potentially getting injured?
I’m just not sure that’s the case.
I was just talking to a buddy about this type of money (more re: NBA). Look at Wiggington, he likely could have had first round money if he left early (after fresh year) but didn't and now is not (and to be fair, basketball seems to have a secondary path of international ball, etc that can get very good money).
$1.4 million is A LOT of money....but if you start taking into account the agent fees, taxes, potentially needing to pay back some advance money/training, etc. you'd have to be VERY disciplined to have it sustain...now, granted, $1.4 is way better than zero or no shot. (and if you can stick with a practice squad you still get REAL good money compared to a "real" job).
I won't go back to who told me this because I don't want our relationship to turn into a transaction. But it sure sounded like Lawrence was going to have some long conversations this week with coaches and family.
But no one is saying he should definitely come back. It depends on where his grade is. If he grades out as a third day guy then I’d probably come back because I think the risk reward is there. If he grades out as day 2 guy then he should go. You also have to remember there are the insurance policies so he can still get something even in a worst case scenario. Besides I don’t think earning potential is going to be a problem for him regardless.
My early readings so far that I’ve seen are round 3-4. I’ve seen him listed as roughly TE #3-5 in the pre draft rankings already. His stock is definitely a solid one.
Also remember that he was on fire over the last few weeks. His stock will only increase from it.

That's huge. Effectively the same offense as last year minus some tight ends. That's not a small loss, considering their role on the offense, but it's really encouraging.
Man that is big...if he can stay healthy....just huge. I just can't believe Sean's improvement. Maybe I am just seeing things wrong and overstating it, but I really thought he was DOMINANT the last 4-6 games.
Yeah and by all accounts we have very similar guys waiting in the wings. One more big play receiver would do wonders for the offense too.
Huge news. Thought Ramos played much better in the bowl than he did in conference title game. When healthy, ISU is really, finally, going to have a lot of depth on the O line.
This is the guy that I thought would benefit the most from another year. The lights came on for him last winter, and he was really playing like the guy they thought they recruited at the end of the year. Another year of hard work and he could be a pro.
Actually it means we have 7 returning starters when you include Downing and Ramos.
