Not exactly sure.
The old family van (1999 Chevy Astro) essentially became mine in high school. It was a total babe magnet.

Not in high school. When I got to ISU I "inherited" my grandmother's '55 Chevy.....with a 265 with Powerglide transmission. (I did know how to drive a stick, though - the old man taught me.)

After I got out of school, I saved to buy a 1976 Mercury Cougar:

Yep, had a 1988 Pontiac Grand Am. Got it summer after I turned 16. (Mid 90's?)

It was powder blue and it was fantastic. Ran better than some cars I've had since -- not sure why I got rid of it.

Close college friend had a Cougar almost exact same model year (except blue). Classic! Is that a half-vinyl roof? Friend's head that (as did my '77 Phoenix). Occasionally, I miss those days.

I had a '76 Plymouth Roadrunner. It was one of the later ones built on the Volare platform so not a true muscle car but I liked it. Mine had a white interior (and some rust) but it looked like this:

I don't remember how much I paid for it in 1981, but I think the interest rate was around 15%.

I inherited a 1976 Ford Granada with a three speed on the floor. Beginning with older brother, five of us kids all wrecked it only to have it rebuilt. Still had original rear bumper when I retired it as Junior at ISU by going head first into a tow truck on I-35, (meaning we always hit something, not other way around).

I keep hearing about all of these "big" vehicles that people drove in high school. WHEN I was allowed to drive, it was my mother's Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser. You want to talk about land yachts...

I grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago, but it was a "small town" in comparison to all the other suburbs. Freshman/sophomore campus was in the neighboring town to the east, junior/senior campus was in the neighboring town to the southwest. So it was either the school bus or your parents or drive yourself. (No public transportation)

So it wasn't my car per se, but I drove a 1989 Plymouth Horizon to extracurriculars and to school my senior year. Only the seniors were allowed to drive to school. It sucked having to take the bus when my dad needed the car instead of taking the train downtown.

Had an 87 Plymouth Sundance. That bad boy went 0-60 in 45 minutes.

My "dream" car in high school was a teal 1993 Plymouth Sundance.

Ya got me by a foot. :D I looked them up.
The 78 Continental was 230" w/a 120" wheelbase.
The 69 VistaCruiser was 218" w/a 121" wheelbase.

I bought both my kids a used car when they turned 16.

This was my first car. I got it between my junior and senior year of high school. I paid half and my parents paid half. Several years of delivering papers. I wish I had it now.
