Somewhere in the Minneapolis Area
I work in the engineering department of a large retailer based in Minneapolis, whose mascot is Bullseye the Dog. Order pick-up and delivery is absolutely booming. We are installing new order pickup areas to stores including refrigeration for groceries as fast as humanly possible.

The growth in that area has been 100%-200% increase EVERY QUARTER. They use their stores as delivery hubs as opposed to a central warehouse, like Amazon. It's been really successful. They believe the hub strategy minimizes transportation costs.

Management is betting the trend will continue every after COVID due to the convenience of the service.

The urgent care in our HyVee is next to the pharmacy...probably a better option than by customer service.

Our customer service is right next to the pharmacy. The urgent care is kind of in the pharmacy. The waiting area is right out in the aisle where people walk after buying their groceries, or walk to the liquor store.

Nothing our species loves more these days than plugging into the matrix.

Also, that's nice of you not to put a Target on your employer's back.

I'll just keep repeating this

Retail is changing, they are trying to stay ahead of the curve and will try things that fail. Retailers who aren't trying to innovate are the ones who will ultimately lose.

I don’t think anyone disagrees with this.

The problem most of us see is that they’ve been a little clumsy implementing some of these changes, and as a result are diluting the core competencies that made them great in the first place.

Liquor store is on east end. Pharmacy is next to it along the front of the store. Urgent care is tucked into the space next to the pharmacy and the pathway through the health foods department that leads to the liquor store. Customer care is in the front center of the store, next to the bank & the starbucks. :D

Around the same time they moved to Cresco, this guy moved to Osage:

North Iowa is just filling up with interesting characters these days

Depending on whether or not you consider Arlington, Cedar Rapids & Marion to be "North Iowa", you also have a bachelor and two survivors up there. :D

Nail salons and other ventures have no impact on the their core competencies, or their investment in core competencies. Hy-Vee was was ahead of the game on mobile / pickup / delivery / rewards and they will continue to focus on those core grocery competencies while trying nail salons and other things in a couple stores (people act like its a 250 store roll out).

Your point is taken, but calling a lot of these moves HyVee has made "innovation" is a stretch. They're just bolting existing businesses onto their current business until they find something that works.

But for sure, the smaller stores, home-delivered meals, different methods of distribution...that's real change.

That guy lives in Osage? Lol He gets plenty of talk on YMH. At least I think it’s that guy. I can’t imagine there’s more than one YouTube channel talking about dicks at the Denver Airport.

As someone who is in the know... the next thing is a mini DSW so you can get your shoe fix on while also getting your food fix on. This is already in the works at a couple of the quad cities stores which are being remodeled right now and will be in some of the metro area stores later this summer.
if you're in the know bring this thread up.. tell them to go back to just being a really great/diverse grocery store and stop with the side project **** all over. the old stores with maybe 1 or 2 aisles of all this **** were great, not half the store..

A butcher is someone who slaughters, prepares, and/or provides counter service in providing the cut and amount of meat you wish to purchase. The local HyVee no longer has service at a meat counter.
