Matt Campbell was successful at Toledo. TJ is not successful at UNLV. Not trying to knock you but that’s not the greatest example. We should be hiring a coach that was successful at his previous destination. (The only exception I would make to that is Hoiberg because he proved he can win here)
I get it, but Prohm was successful at Murray State and McDermitt was successful at UNI. Unfortunately, a coach‘s record at their prior school is not always predictive of how they will do at their next gig.

That’s true but we probably wouldn’t have hired Prohm or McDermott if they were unsuccessful at their prior jobs. I think there’s a better chance of success if you hire a coach that had success at his prior job.

Then you hire someone who has plenty of experience in the head coaching seat at this level. Being an assistant and "knowing" all about this level of basketball means absolutely nothing. Wayne Morgan probably is the poster boy for high level recruiting and assistant experience with his years at Syracuse during the Big East hey day. And he was canned with a winning record. So either do that.....or play the percentages and get the mid major with the best resume. That's all you can do.

Tim wasn't a bad coach. Considering how tough that NU job is......he did fairly well. But back to ISU......unless JP opens up the checkbook and gets an Altman or a Matta....then Smith and Moser seem to be the best bets in the mid major category.
JP has been green lighted to open the checkbook as needed.

I’lol join in on not being too fired up about TJ. If there was no Iowa State connection no one would be mentioning the guy who is .500 at UNLV and arguably underachieved at SDSU with a generational player at that level.

Here’s to hoping if it is him we can resurrect this thread in a few years and laugh at myself and others who doubted him.

TJ's "rebuild the right way" may or may not be on schedule at UNLV, but it's exceeded the patience level of those Attention Span Theatre types in Vegas.
The same approach might benefit from more goodwill and patience and Ames, but then, after Prohm, might not.

The choices here should be:'
Moser
The Field.

If Moser leaves Loyola, he will be out of a job by 2026.

So far there are 115 comments, and 350 people have voted on this poll. 17.5% want TJ. Hard for me to believe that the people who have access to Jamie's ear would be to thrilled on a TJ hire.

TJ also went in to UNLV and cleaned house. Using two years (one being a friggin pandemic year) to determine if TJ can coach just seems really lazy.

Dennis Gates, is the man I want. Turned around the dumpster fire at Cleveland state in two seasons. Amazing recruiter and has a great personality like Matt Campbell.(culture builder, and motivational)

You need to hire him this year because I think he will be the top candidate in the nation by next year.

I think he may be the best all around candidate we could get, but the risk is that he has not done it for very long. I agree that it may not matter, he is going to be the hottest option next year if somebody doesn't take him now. And maybe he prefers that.

I misread the poll question because I voted field. Though it was who we thought it would be.

Guess I'm in the big time minority here:
Want: TJ
Will be: Field

Nobody mentioned in the 'field' really intrigues me other than maybe DeVries and I don't know enough about him and the Drake program yet. I don't want an old-timer like Altman or Belein and am rather soured on the mid-major hot shot after Prohm. Don't think Fred would put himself through it again, nor would I want him to.

I somehow missed what everyone's knock is on TJ other than he's friends with Jamie. I remembered he was pretty well liked here and people thought he kind of got the shaft at the time both Fred and Steve were hired.

TJ is a great recruiter, who has had success at a mid-major and experience at a larger school that has a basketball history. I don't think he's had time to show what he can achieve at UNLV yet.

Lol this is an online poll in which TJ was in a runoff vs the other 7 billion people on earth.
