My sources are telling me we should hear an announcement today from Jamie naming Otz as our new coach. ISU and UNLV are working out the logistics of it all right now. A little underwhelming by the hire but hopefully he brings Hilton Magic back and a little life to this fanbase, sooner rather than later.
He has achieved great success while coaching in the recruiting hotbeds of Mayville, North Dakota, Vermillion, South Dakota, and Logan, Utah. Whatever he is doing, it is working.
Chris has done a good job pointing out that pollard hired plenty of people without a bunch of interviews—Campbell, dresser, rhoads, Hoiberg. And that’s true. But in those cases pollard wasn’t paling around with them for years. And the media members weren’t doing the same thing.
And while Chris has been open about their friendship and how he might not want to cover them, he’s also trying to justify the hiring process. It’s ok to be TJs friend and to think he’s the right guy but also not dismiss people that question the process. Add to that at least two posters telling us how great he is and it’s just a lot.
If TJ is as good as they all think, he will prove me wrong and I’ll be a great fan. But I don’t like being told what to think about someone who has consolidated support among powerful people.

Probably. I’m just saying, hate (what we perceive to be) the process all you want, but when I look at Jared’s list of candidates and winnow it down to the realistic ones, I think Smith and TJ are the best two. I could be disappointed that we’re not getting Altman or some unknown hypothetical visionary, but it’s probably better to save that energy for things that matter, like why is it 2021 and we still don’t have Back to the Future-style hoverboards?
I wonder if more important than competing for top in the conference in MBB, JP is OK with good enough and a marquee win or two a season (not unlike the Orr years), but TJ absolutely hits it out of the park with fund raising. JP is going all-in on being top of the conference in FB and knows that money is the key now that we have a coach.
Well, that would actually be black coffee but it's mostly water so maybe you're not entirely wrong.
This thread gets more ridiculous by the page, yet I can't stop reading it. Thanks for the entertainment everyone.
I’m not sure how this could be solved so I understand Jamie would be in a bind. But because of the blind spot around TJ I’m not sure I would believe who was realistic or not.
No one is telling you what to think.
