Yes, actually. Campbell was the absolute hottest commodity that year, with at least one SEC school having him as their favorite candidate.
Sure he was a hot commodity but he was going to one of the worst programs in college football..

Just wait until he struggles. Same crowd will be angrily defensive, even more wildly toxic than the last couple of Prohm years.
If he is the guy, I hope like hell he succeeds. There are many farm families and old widows that rely on ISU basketball to be entertaining so that the winter months here are bearable. They deserve something to look forward to.

Not with this crowd. TJ fever has swept the group that matters. Empiricists? Pffft. We don't know nothing. Landing the guy that nobody else is chasing, and that his current fans and apparently media want to dismiss, is a real accomplishment. Just sit back and cheer mindlessly.

When it comes to hiring a basketball coach at a public university, Matt Campbell’s favorite phrase, “the process” is verboten amongst those who just want to hand the job to TJ

McD made mistakes and they cascaded. In part because of not having the high major experience. Also because he couldn’t get a pg. Yes, part of that was his coaching and his rigidity not being a bad fit for this level

But if TJ is the coach that McD is, it’ll be a decent hire. It doesn’t take a good coach to get some wins here- Morgan and Prohm put together seasons that had wins. It’s consistently winning that requires a good coach

In five years Fred never had a losing season. In three years Morgan never had a losing season. In four years GMAC never had a winning season. I know who I don't want TJ to be like.

Eastern IA -> Raleigh, NC -> Madison, WI

I really do not understand the hate for him on here. His teams are fundamentally sound, he is really well liked by HS coaches around the state, he has some tourney experience, he is competitive most years in the conference.... He isn't a home run hire, but he is not some awful coach like some on here think.

It doesn't matter because he isn't going to be the new coach anyway.

Nor am I, just being realistic. The TJ fanboys have driven me to this place. TJ isn't being mentioned for any other jobs, let alone Minnesota, which is the tell. We aren't grabbing some hot commodity like Campbell was. Was TJ even a candidate for Washington when that job opened up? If not, why not?

Washington wasn't hiring a formar Romar's Assistant to replace him after they fired him for poor results. How angry would this thread be if Jamie was looking at D. Robinson as a candidate?

Considering the timing I think most AD's looking for coaches already connected the dots that once ISU opened TJ would be the hire. TJ current resume doesn't demand an interview this year though may if he'd been there a couple more years with his program in place.

I wouldn't also be surprised the assumption that TJ would be the heavy favorited and limited Jamie's options. A coach like Smith or Gates with similar resumes could very well decline an interview request to focus on jobs they think they have better chances at (Minn/DePaul). If Jamie heard the contract demands of a Beliien or Turgeon would be 4+ mill the choice became clear to him.

We may not like it but hiring college coaches about relationships. Richard Pitino got the NM in a day because he is connected to Billy Donovan who knows the AD for NM. (all due to to being Rick Pitino's kid)

Or in your case ceaseless whining.

Thank you! This is the attitude to have. Good lord, there's more temper tantrums than a room full of toddlers around here.
A lot of people can compartmentalize- excited to see if TJ can quickly rebuild this roster, while also seeing JP’s flaws

I don't like the fact that we went with TJ so quickly but I do think it's possible for some success with him. He'll be able to take away from McD, Fred and Prohm to see what works. I hope moving quick at the very least allows TJ to retain Foster and commitments.

Also, it's alright to disagree with the hire and still want the dude to do good. I will be the biggest TJ fan if he turns around. But let's not act like Bill Self is walking through the door.

Also, it is alright to disagree with Jamie on the hire and still think he's done good with other things/hires at the University.

Form your own opinion people.

This still blows my mind to this day.
