I don't love it. I don't hate it. The biggest thing to me is who he fills his staff out with. We need new blood all the way around in that respect.

Get quality kids on campus.
Coach 'em up.

We've been fairly solid with #1. We've had some bad misses however. #2 has been a disaster for the most part.
expect a couple of fimiliar names...

Career T rank.png

Just for a little perspective. I used T Rank to compare the career averages for each coach in the Big XII. Smart, Beard, Phrom and TJ are the only coaches that had info available at the mid major level. I included a break down of their averages at each level. Chris Beard made the biggest improvement from his one year at ARL. He improved by 48 spots. TJ will have to improve by 54 places to match Steve Prohm's ISU career average.

I hope for the best for everyone involved, but this is a big leap of faith.

Sorry for having expectations. Sorry for using facts and data. Sorry for being offended by an absurdly lazy and nepotistic hiring process where we hired a guy that NOBODY ELSE is even after.

What facts and data? And you know what nepotism actually means, right?

Sigh. I'm hoping for the best and he'll have my support. I'd hate to have to go through this again in 3-4 years. It would be even harder for Jamie to fire TJ than it was for Prohm.

I am glad that they got it done. If JP and the president are in agreement, that is a good start. Let's face it, we were not in the position to hire a top D-1 guy. TJ did a great job in SD, and didn't set the world on fire at UNLV. This last year he had 9 new players, most of those freshman, so a little challenging at best.

I thought Jamie went into great detail on what happened in the hiring process. Something you usually do not see.

Yeah if we just compare him to Prohm this year, TJ actually won conference games with a bunch of new players and COVID issues. Still seems like a low bar

As Jaimie pointed out you have a 50/50 chance of being right. So, there's that. ;)

My record is much worse than that!

If I was friends with TJ, he’d feel good about his chances considering I am not sure it will work!

That's because he is a **** and knows Craig Smith is the best realistic candidate for the ISU job. Hope I am proven wrong.
Craig Smith might end up being a great coach at the P6 level. But right now there is nothing that makes me think he'll be better, or worse than TJ. He has never been at a P6 school before. That's worrisome to me.

I guess we'll know if 3-4 years.
