Loyola’s defense is salty. They aren’t ridiculously talented or athletic but play so heady and together on the offensive end as well. Very well orchestrated

Scary thing is they have a very real shot at at least the Elite Eight. Neither of their potential Sweet 16 opponents will scare them. That defense is so nasty.

Which is a little scary for me because I have the Pokes in the Final Four. Why? I dunno. I didn’t put a whole lot of thought into my picks this year.

Until they are out you are still alive! I have the Hawks winning in all of my brackets so that I win either way. I win my bracket pools or the Hawks don’t cut down the nets. Win-win for me.

Loyola’s defensive scheme and coaching is as good as it gets.

Krutwig is a great talent and they have the right pieces around him. Really fun team to watch, even with the slower style of play.

I just can’t understand why Illinois didn’t change anything up. They didn’t play with urgency.
They know steve prohm is available and are trying to attract him.

With Loyola advancing, Midwest region has early potential to blow up thru R32 ... 1 seed is out, 3 double-digit seeds remain.

Conversely, could wind up 8-4-3-2 in Sweet 16, which isn't extreme.

Apologies if you have addressed it @HoopsTournament but with a 1 seed down I pose this. How many times have all 4 # 1 seeds made sweet 16 and last time it happened and what is the fewest 1 seeds to make a sweet 16 in a single tournament?

And then Elite Eight could be West Virginia or Houston. Those would be defensive battles.
The way they play the Final Four is certainly not out of the realm. I am with you Houston could be a tough matchup for them. I don’t see West Virginia winning again. Maybe this next one but that would be the end of it I think.

There have been 35 tournaments since 1985 (before this year)
  • All 4 have made it to the Sweet Sixteen 18 times
  • Last time was 2019
  • At least 2 #1 seeds have been every year.
  • There have been only 2 #1 seeds 3 times (2000, 2004, 2018)

That was a coaching clinic from game planning to execution. Masterful.

B-b-b-but I was told by posters on here that because Porter Moser had a bad season back in 2008 that he's a bad coach, and that Loyola's run to the Final Four three years ago was just luck!

I normally don't get too snarky, but that mindset that I described above isn't hyperbole and it was used against Moser, and it was and is deeply silly, and I am tired of pretending that everyone's opinions are of equal value.

Man, Underwood got outcoached in the second half. Where was a press? Why wait so long to try 3 pointers to close the gap?

2000 would have been one of my first guesses for fewest 1s in the Sweet 16, since two 8s (UNC and Wisconsin) made the Final Four that year.
