Maybe I just wasn't paying attention as much but don't remember Alabama/Mississippi getting tornadoes as much back in the day as they seem to have now in recent years.

was going to say wasn't there an extremely high risk (cat 5) day last week..
They've always been a favored location, but definitely trending more that direction

I don't really have a great answer on all of that. There are a lot of spots that need another radar. If you have a moment could you tell us why the radar coverage seems so terrible down in the Alabama/Mississippi area? There seems to be a lot of dead spots.

And you can get into some really hilly terrain down there, which, depending which radar is looking where can be an issue.
Watching WTVA and have a new phrase used by the meteorologist. "Respect the polygon"
Spann had to come off the air for a few minutes. Tornado hit his house and had pretty significant damage in his neighborhood
Vintage Spann.
Another Spann note: he’s from Greenville, AL...home of Forrest Gump.
Any good Alabama News Stations to watch?
I’ve always wondered why Iowa seems to be so fortunate re the number of tornado deaths. Are ours typically not as strong as the southern ones? P-burg resulted in 9 deaths and I don’t think that’s been exceeded since and that’s going on 13 years now. These days are hard. There are people alive right now that potentially won't be tonight, many times just due to their situation. The current tornado watch goes until 8PM. That is 8+ hours from issuance that people especially in low income areas need to be close to well fortified shelter just in case. That is hard and in my places impossible.
