I always used to reason that coaches like Fred or Campbell could make more at ISU in the long run because they've got essentially lifetime employment as opposed to going to some dysfunctional pro franchise and getting fired after three years...

...but if what is being reported is true, this is a whole other level.

With quite a few players deciding to come back wonder if Campbell just couldn't pull the trigger on bailing on those guys? Maybe if Detroit made that same offer next off-season when many ISU players are leaving maybe Campbell has a different decision.

This is the first I've heard of that offer though so not sure if it is even true.

Or maybe Campbell has no interest in the NFL and wants to stay where he is....

Not that his millions he’s made/will make at ISU is small, but that is truly life-changing money. Says a lot he said no
If Matt is here for the next 8 years he'll probably make in the range of $40 million ($4/yr current contract plus incentives and future raises). Once you get to that level there's not much you can do with $68 million that you couldn't do with $40 million. So it's pretty reasonable to decide based on the job and lifestyle you want.

When you make millions a year, is there really a difference of quality of life between $4 million and $8.5 million per year? That is insane money that most coaches would jump at but if you already love what you do where you are at and have the quality of life you want/need, what is the point going to the Lions when they will just fire you before the end of your contract? Not to mention you are on track to have your statue outside of JTS someday.

I would assume yes honestly. That's money that can help out a lot of people and set up your families for life. He really loves it here though
