Well, yeah. His family vacation was to Canton.Woah, we are going to have to pony up even more money if he's blowing through it like that.

Campbell would have control over the players no matter where he went IMODetroit is a wasteland for a job. The money is good, but no control over players. The college level allows for better job security and control of operations.
Haha. So you have?![]()
Campbell would have control over the players no matter where he went IMO
Has any college coach ever had personnel control their first year in the NFL? I don’t think even many NFL coaches have that say. That’s typically the GM’s job.
You've obviously never met a Russian Oligarch.

Actually multigenerational wealth like that can start to cause more problems than it is worth when you start getting generations removed from where it was earned.Yep. We're talking about not just your kids never having to worry about money but now your grandkids
You can do a lot with an extra $28 million. That’s starting to build multiple layers of generational wealth.

I think it is pretty obvious that Matt Campbell is not particularly motivated by money. You can see that in how he had his raises go towards his assistants instead of himself, how he doesn't have an agent, etc etc. If he was eager to accept a job that paid more, he would have left ages ago. Florida State, or any of the NFL jobs would have paid more.
I do think that it is likely that Campbell will leave eventually, but it won't just be because he is paid more. It will be that he wants a different challenge, or ISU reaches their ceiling, or something along those lines I think.
And when he leaves, he leaves it to someone that he has mentored and has a similar outlook/philosophy. That would be the best case scenario.I agree. You can just see how he's wired. How many people walk away from a D1 scholarship to play D3? You have to be wired a bit differently to do that. A lot of people chase money or fame because of ego. If he has one, there is no one else better in the world at hiding it. I think he stays in Ames for as long as he feels challenged and is given the tools to be successful....or feels that he has become "the best version of himself." Hopefully that day when he leaves ends up many, many years from now.
Yep. But there is also a compelling counterargument for many that leaving kids and grandkids that kind of money isn't a good thing.
It's one thing to leave a legacy that pays for their education, a downpayment on a house, and gets them a jump on life, but many would donate the money to charity before creating a situation where a couple of subsequent generations would never have to work. That money would certainly buy them comfort, but also quite possibly ruin their lives because they'd never have to strive for anything.
Assuming he stays healthy and and is good with his money...which by all accounts seems to be the case, he will make more than enough so that those generations won't have to work anyway.
Don't know but guys that come to mind are Chip Kelly and Saban.Has any college coach ever had personnel control their first year in the NFL? I don’t think even many NFL coaches have that say. That’s typically the GM’s job.
Didn’t see too many issues with Kliff Kingsbury this past year....
