I know things are stressful at the moment but let's not lose our minds. A&M isn't leaving the SEC.

No one is leaving the SEC. They will be poaching the best of the best for a super conference. The rest will be a 'not so super' conference aka the MAC

I think there's at least a chance - whether now or 10 years from now - that the super conference sheds some of the SEC's weaker programs - Arkansas, South Carolina, the Mississippi schools, Vandy, etc. in favor of Ohio State, Clemson, and other powers.

But no SEC school is going to leave on its own for another conference.

Of one thing in this whole mess I am absolutely sure: You have no handle on how someone like Matt Campbell thinks. Your mindsets couldn't be more opposite.

If anything Campbell waits around for the Mount Union job to open up. He's probably as disgusted by all of this as anybody. What he loves about the sport is not going to be embodied in its new version that seems to be taking shape.

This is the same legislature that just a few months ago wanted to end tenure at all 3 BOR institutes and also wants to know how faculty are registered to vote. ISU football is not on the top of their mind.

What one thinks of their normal politics isn’t relevant. As much as some people like to think politicians are morons right now, myself included, they aren’t totally incompetent. They know that Iowa State not being included would hurt the state. Having one of the most influential be a former athlete doesn’t hurt either.

The Ohio State football team hasn't had to deal with any new members in the Big Ten since Nebraska joined back in 2011. That could change here soon.

They know that Iowa State not being included would hurt the state. Having one of the most influential be a former athlete doesn’t hurt either.

I agree with you that Whitver is probably the most likely person in the legislature to speak on ISU's behalf, but I just don't know what they could do besides threaten to sue Texas/OU/SEC.

Posting in here since the other thread kinda went nuts, but I think the best plan is that you try to keep the Big 12 alive with the other 7. See if BYU, Houston, SMU, Cincy, Memphis, UCF want in. Maybe you can still swing the Arizonas too. While sure, revenue isn't going to be as great you still have stuff like Bowl Tie ins and ESPN deals that put you above the G5 teams. We can come out of this ok even if we're in not in the Big 10 or Pac 12. Will it be the same? No, probably not. But we can still occupy an ok spot in everything and with the playoff going to 12 most likely have a shot to keep the conference relevant through that

WVU has a medical school that I think makes them a sneaky-good fit for the Big 10.

I like the idea the biggest concern I have is we would take a massive revenue drop. If we can get the Pac 12 to go to 16 we would make more money than your proposed new big 12.

They control the Regents and they will force Iowa to advocate for us to be included. At the end of the day I don’t think it really matters because I think it either blows up completely (no conferences new governing body) or nothing happens.

If West Virginia was valuable as a University to a conference wouldn't they already be in the ACC?

Yeah, that's where the biggest problem is. Unless you throw a **** ton of cash at Notre Dame you're gonna fall off hard no matter what you do.

this comes down to votes. and besides the emotional brat A&M is, who else is voting 'No' which means they don't want more money.

75% of SEC members need to vote 'Yes' for this to pass. A&M will likely vote no. Maybe Mizzou? Maybe Arkansas. That is 11/14, that passes the 75% threshold meaning one other must say 'No' to more money

Arkansas HATES Texas. So does Missouri.

It's monetarily beneficial to Iowa for Iowa State to be in the Big 10. For Iowa State too.

I agree with Chris that there’s gotta be something larger at play if this is true.

What's at play here (and Chris inexplicably missed it) is that ESPN only wants to pay Texas and OU from the B12. That is why ESPN recently made an extremely lowball initial offer during ESPN's exclusive negotiating window with the B12. This is all being driven by ESPN.

i understand that Ark is a rival to TX .... but so much so to vote down more money? And the same for Mizzou? Maybe Ark votes no, but I am less likely to think Mizzou votes no.

Or an NFL job...couldn't agree with you more though. If ISU gets bounced from P5/P4, I'm out. They can keep NFL lite.
