Nope, nobody does, but I’m not sure why people think we’re the 3rd most attractive school in the Big 12.
I’d probably put us more like 4th. Baylor and TCU are the bottom 2. Kansas for all its basketball is the worst football program. Kansas State is bad academically. So it’s really I think 4 schools fighting for 3-6. I think we’re better than Tech and WV. OSU is the one closest to us.

And even if we are 4th, what will that really gain us if the Big 10 isn’t looking to expand or the PAC 12 isn’t either?

I don't know if we're the 3rd most attractive, b, who is? The rest of the programs are on a fairly level playing field. I'd maybe put TCU and Baylor at the bottom since they are smaller and don't have much of a fan base compared to the others.

Oklahoma State
Kansas
Iowa State
West Virginia
Baylor (though the Baptist connections KILL them in this discussion)
Texas Tech
Kansas State
TCU

We’d be in a big12 ‘lite’ conference after adding houston and cinci. Not optimal of course but i could palate it if forced to.

It's very fair to think that what Texas has done in the past decade is as telling as what they were doing in the Aughts. Because the game and landscape has changed significantly since then. Haven't had sustained success since Mack left, and programs can flounder for years/tens of years with incompetency in the Department. (See that USC team that you remember playing those Texas teams, or look just west at Nebby)

Can they (and should they) get back to the Texas teams of your childhood? Certainly. But it's so funny that anyone who has watched that program over the last 10 years would assume they are forsure going to be that powerhouse again because.. "they're texas". Seems to hold less and less weight each season. Would like to see them prove it in full first.

I don't really care, no matter what the Texas boosters will sell their brand as a top-tier blue blood that will compete for the CFP every season, whether that is truthful or not. And until they go elsewhere and try it, it's all a theoretical debate.
They have the money and resources to hire a good coach. That is the only thing they are missing. They have everything else. Thinking Texas won’t compete in the SEC is goofy.

Yeah that's fair and I get it. Texas can come back if they get the right staff. I mean, we all know if Saban would have went there a few years ago, they'd "be back."

I was just saying that Bama's 90s struggles were based upon some punishments and sanctions, something that Nebraska hasn't really had to deal with, since Nebraska was mentioned.

OKSt academics drop them, I think their sports help, but their academics hurts them. In the grand scheme of things I dont know where all that works out, it really depends on which conference you are talking about.

Texas' issue is they make bad hires at the coaching level that can't take advantage of the money/facilities and location. We've talked about this on Discord but Texas is 33rd in winning percentage since 2010 among P5 teams (thanks for the link Doc). 32nd is Nebraska and behind other teams such as Northwestern, Missouri, and South Carolina. Herman was a lackluster hire and Sarkisian probably will be too.

I didn't say that I think that at all. I asked you what they had done to make you think that they'd regularly compete for the top 4 in the SEC.

My reason for asking is, If they aren't competing for those top spots year in and year out, is it worth it for Texas with the CFP change coming? As you mentioned they have the Money and Resources there to pretty much do anything they want, and they have still not been able to do "it" the past 10 years in the Big12; So to assume they'd just jump Georgia and LSU and Florida and OU to be a mainstay in the top4 of the SEC with simply moving to the SEC, I find that to be just as goofy as assuming they wouldn't compete in the SEC.

They already have one of the richest athletic departments in the whole country. The extra money isn't going to help them enough to offset the increase in competition.
This move is more about prestige and optics than money.
