If the Big 12 actually has the 'evidence' they claim they have, this could be a serious lawsuit. I believe the Big 12 can not only sue for the GOR money, but for future damages. This could be in the hundreds of millions of dollars, approaching money that the two athletic departments dont have. Seems like ESPN is the puppet master behind all of this though, I just cant believe they didnt cover their tracks better. They have an army of lawyers who had to have known the risks here.

Can we just simply not allow OuT to leave the conference early? When they come with a buyout offer just tell them to **** off and play the 4 years like you promised?

If they can pay the buyout at full price, there's really no stopping them. The whole point is they're trying to get out of it as cheaply as possible - or even better for them for nothing if they can get the conference dissolved.

Based on this news, even if the Big Ten was interested in adding Kansas and Iowa State (which I'd be pretty surprised honestly), I think with this news, I wouldn't expect to hear anything regarding the addition of ISU and Kansas until our GOR was up, or at least until the Big Ten's is up in 2023.

The Big Ten works with Fox for the Big Ten Network, the main competitor of ESPN. Currently, ESPN can't afford to pay all the contracts they're obligated to pay. If you were Fox, you'd want ESPN to have to dish out as much money as possible to hurt them financially, you wouldn't wanna help them. ESPN has everything to gain from the Big 12 folding. Texas and Oklahoma can immediately go to the SEC, where ESPN owns the SEC Network. Longhorn Network has been abysmal, which would disappear if Texas went to the SEC. Texas and Oklahoma would get out of paying their buyout fee. ESPN wouldn't have to pay the Big 12 $1 billion over the next 4 years as they're contractually obligated to do. There's literally well over $1 billion ESPN would save if the Big 12 folded.

If I'm a Fox exec, I'm speaking with the Big Ten to tell them that if our two schools are under consideration, to hold off. Again, this is even if they were interested in KU and ISU, which I'm not confident they are. The Big Ten knows that Texas and Oklahoma getting out of $160 million, SEC adding two blue bloods earlier, SEC Network expanding, ESPN getting out of contracts, would ultimately help the SEC as well. And the Big Ten does not want to help the SEC in any form.

They have gotten so used to pulling the strings from way back to which teams added to the ACC. DeFilippo (Boston College AD) said, “We always keep our television partners close to us,. TV – ESPN – is the one who told us what to do.". Everybody has been too afraid to stand up to ESPN before.

Other than Bear and Jessie Palmer, I couldn’t figure out why the ESPN talking heads didn’t get behind ISU as the story of the year. Herbie, Davis, Galloway, etc. couldn’t hide their derision as we climb the CFP rankings. Makes more sense now, considering ESPNs world view.

This also hurts FOX as a B12 media partner if the league dissolves or is decreased in value. FOX loses inventory and a strong B12 with OU and tu.

Oh right, I suppose buyouts would be written into the contract. But if we’re all screwed anyway, what’s the point in even negotiating? No ones gonna jump ship early for a g5 and it looks like P4 aren’t really interested.

Good point, I forgot ESPN and Fox both owned a portion of the Big 12 media rights. ESPN would absolutely want the Big 12 to fold to get out of their $1 billion in media rights. Fox wouldn't want to lose inventory. Yet another reason Fox would want the Big 12 to stay together and encourage the Big Ten to not take Iowa State and Kansas before 2025 if they happened to be interested in us.

I think ESPN’s hope was probably up the payout in the AAC (they could double it and it would still be only about half what Big 12 teams get) to convince enough of the screwed teams like Baylor and TCU and KSU to jump ship because $20 million is better than their likely futures, then have the conference dissolve.
