That is about exactly how I would expect ESPN (their lawyers) to respond. If you're accused of wrongdoing, you deny everything publicly until forced to do otherwise. There is no swearing in required to write a press release or perjury charges for making false statements. I'm sure ESPN has a competent legal team and they won't hang themselves by admitting anything nefarious. You'll probably have to wait until facts come out in a courtroom unless things leak out through unofficial channels.
I agree. I was merely pointing out how arrogant and unprofessional the wording was.

They believe Bob is bluffing. Just like in poker when you have nothing, but want that sweet pot reward. They are calling him out to show his hand.

He doesn't need to show his hand outside the courtroom.

I interpret ESPN's childlike denials the last couple days as knowing they are busted and ESPN isn't going to say much that could later be used in court by the Big12.

It is not good for the SEC, OU/UT or ESPN if lawyers get involved. The remaining 8 Big12 schools don't have much to lose and can split court costs 8 ways. Sure Texas & OU are richer than snot, but they don't want the black-eye this is going to cause.

Think about it. If ESPN did create a honey pot by enticing Big12 teams to the AAC with the promise of higher rights fees, there are now AD's or Presidents in the AAC who can leverage that information. The reality of the situation will become more apparent to G5 AD's & Presidents- that Super Conferences are the first step in booting G5 conferences from the 12 team playoff table.

"We trust this will put the matter to rest."

Yeah, not so much there Burke.
Oh it’s all just puffing the chest and trying to show all those followers on Twitter that you’re not “backing down”. So a bunch of people are already going “oooooo did you see him disrespect Bob??? That means they’re confident in all this.”

No lol. Bob does not come out like that if he doesn’t have some sort of hard evidence (which he literally said he does). That statement about how “any UT or OU President / AD does not want to be up on the stand with a hand on the bible” is pretty damning in my opinion. You just don’t say such a thing to a reporter if there’s nothing there.

lol why do you think this? The fact that he came out like that tells me he doesn't have "hard evidence." If he did have such evidence, he's not making any statements or sending cease and desist letters. His legal team would be compiling the evidence, dotting all the i's and crossing the t's, and then there would be a lawsuit.

Pretty sure if I read right, the cease and desist is the start of legal action. This seemed to be a necessary first step.

I’d assume those types of accusations towards an entity like ESPN wouldn’t be taken lightly if all of this is just an attempt to throw shade and throw a fit towards them and there was no validity to any of it..

When he says "I have irrefutable proof" he either does or is the most incompetent Commissioner ever. "You don't send a cease and desist letter if you have proof"?

I said he didn't have hard evidence, I didn't say he had nothing. I think it's pretty obvious that ESPN is guilty of exactly what Bowlsby alleged. I just don't think he can prove it in a court of law but I also doubt ESPN could prove that they didn't (because you know, they did).

Right right. I just think that someone messed up here on ESPN’s side. Big time. I think they left a paper trail.

are you kidding me right now? Have you ever in your life followed any legal proceedings? Just because he says he has irrefutable proof doesn't actually mean it is in fact irrefutable and just because ESPN say they did nothing wrong doesn't actually mean they did nothing wrong.

A person at Bob Bowlsby’s level doesn’t say he has irrefutable proof if he doesn’t. This isn’t your last OWI hearing.
