Good article, he makes some very valid points. i cannot imagine the backlash that will happen when Auburn loses a game they are supposed to win. It will be ugly.

ISU is like the plain housewife left by her husband for Madonna. All media flashbulbs are pointed far away while we are at home in crises struggling to get our life back on track.

Good read. I do think Chizik is being set up to fail. I' sure a lot of fans are upset that Tommy T was run out of town. Then they replace him with a VERy questionable hire. Gene will be living is a fishbowl aon a very short leash. No room for error in that equation. Maybe he got all of his head coaching mistakes out of his system at ISU. My prediction is Auburn will be announcing another new head coach before 2012 season is over.

Made an awesome point and one that really pulls at what i thought Chizik brought to Iowa State that would propel us further then any of us ever thought our football program was capable of - Recruiting.

He will succeed at Auburn - he will recruit the heck out of Florida, Georgia and Alabama. He will succeed at recruiting no doubt in my mind. Now, can he coach - i don't know, time will tell, but he will have really good players to implement his system. Secondly, i think he learned a few lessons while at ISU that may change his coaching style a bit, after all, his neck is on the line if someones not doing their jobs.

Lastly, Chizik screwed everyone, i only wish one column, one article from ESPN or another outlet would emphasize it. How much of a coward and snake he was not only to Jamie and the athletics department, but also to the fans and mostly to his own guys that he lied to - for that, he has a lot of developing in his profession. If some think he was backdooring things i bet not, why would he have demoted and fired coaches if he knew he was packing up????

They did talk about this last night on the NFL channel college football segment. One of the analysts made a great point...

Does Chizik regardless of success as an assistant at that school get that interview if he's black and 5-19.....they thought not and i agree. But, the good ol boys with the fat wallets like Chizik and thats all that mattered - he was one of their own.....

Wins will tell that - but, they ended that by saying sometimes Karma has a way of catching up to ya sometimes....

Good Luck Gene!!!!!

Lets say Gene can coach. I don't think he'll be given time to succeed.

I agree. He's definitely in the spotlight now with a lot of pressure to succeed early. It's going to be tough for him. I think he would have been given a better chance here.

True, but it should be noted the wife is better off that the cheating jerk is gone - as long as she doesn't hook up with the first loser off the street that will take her.

Sidenote: You must really dislike Auburn to compare it to Madonna.

If Chizik goes less than 0.500 next year, he's gone.

I think the fact that Chizik is Bobby Lowder's personal pick and puppet, he gets probably at least a second year (just due to the fact that no Auburn fan wanted him when it was just in the rumor stage, yet the hire happened anyway). However, I don't think even Lowder can take that kind of external pressure to hold onto his puppet if he isn't successful by year two - and I just don't see any chance in that.

Maybe, but if Chizik goes less than .500 next year, Jay Jacobs is gone.

That's a real possibility. There's no way the real man behind this decision - Bobby Lowder - takes any real heat in this.

It will be sooner than that...mark my words.

You cannot be serious. You realize that he will be going toe-to-toe in recruiting against the likes of Saban, Richt, Meyer, Spurrier, Bowden, and heck even Paul Johnson. There is plenty of doubt in my mind that he will "succeed in recruiting" at AU.

Hell - at this point in time I think athletes would be willing to consider South Florida, Central Florida, Vanderbilt, Mississippi St, Louisiana Tech, maybe even Troy over Auburn.

If Chizik really turns that place around in 2 years, I would suspect Lowder had some "hand" in it and investigations should ensue (after all, it has reportedly happened before down there).
