Alrighty then, so if we do get into the big ten, does that finally bring baseball back for those people clamoring for it? I think there are some people who need to be opening up their checkbooks and making a large donation if they do. I says it's HOCKEY TIME!

Also, wonder if KU will have to add wrestling.
Why not both?

I think the Pac will say they have no intention of expanding at this time. That allows them to move forward with expansion after UT and OU pay up.

I agree. If they say they are looking to expand, that just gives OU/UT lawyers an opening to say, "look, we know that most, if not all, teams are already negotiating landing spots somewhere else, so the Big 12 won't even be a thing by the time we leave (and then insert lowball offer here)"

Why hiring Luck was important. He can negotiate things and then teams can say they were told no when they asked, but still technically have options since Luck is now handling things.

More like The BAD Doctor, amirite fellas? Fellas?
He might be A doctor, but he is not THE Doctor. So screw the negativity. It sucks that this is happening, but ISU is in far better shape than it was previously to weather the storm. And a bunch of bloviating national sports guys who aren't smart enough to get real jobs don't convince me of anything (no offense intended to real journalists).

As has been pointed out repeatedly--what is being said right now is fairly pointless.

In the end, things may be different and some things we cherish may be lost, but we will be Iowa Staters all.

Full speed ahead.

Yeah I think either way, the statement the Pac 12 will make will be as meaningful as the Pac/Big/ACC alliance. It'll be a lot of meaningless words with nothing concrete established that could change at any moment.
For now, it will just result in clicks on links for stupid articles written by sports journalists who simply don't care about anything other than what they view as elite teams.

KU & ISU will have to add sports. For KU I would guess wrestling and lacrosse would be the first. Rumors there's going to be a big fundraiser starting up for the stadium and upgrades to baseball. If that drive starts I might start to believe the KU/ISU to the Big talk, otherwise I still think the Big is going to wait until the ACC tv deal comes closer to the end.

They have to upgrade just to avoid being laughed at by FCS schools that show up. So, that will be irrelevant to any of this.

So you think things might happen close to 2035 and not sooner?

@Gonzo after Iowa cut the sports last year, how many mens and womens sports do they currently have, or will have after the cuts? Just for comparison.

While it's not a contract written in blood (and who would have been naive enough to have expected all those entities to have that already), there is no question that it is in everyone's best interest to work together against what the SEC and ESPN are trying to do.

Has there not been a “fundraiser” for that crap hole stadium for years?

No, there's not been a real fundraiser. We keep going through AD's. They actually have built new facilities everywhere else and just opened their second new volleyball facility but keep kicking the can on the stadium. I've heard some of the big donors have really stepped up for the stadium and the plans will come out when the fundraiser starts. I'll believe when I see it, although this conference thing might get it started.

So, looking at what's happened...

There seems to be the ESPN/SEC vision for CFB, and then there seems to be the ACC/Big Ten/Pac-12 vision that doesn't like various apsects of the ESPN/SEC vision.

It seems apparent that the ESPN/SEC vision doesn't want five power conferences. Based on past ruminations from ESPNers, it seems they perhaps favor four super conferences.

But how many power conferences does the ACC/Big Ten/Pac-12 vision entail? Do they think there should be five (or maybe even more) power conferences, or do they agree with the ESPN/SEC vision of four? That's one of the primary questions that will determine what happens next.

If the ACC/Big Ten/Pac-12 think five power conferences is a good number, they likely aren't going to add any of the R8 teams to their conferences, and the Big 12 would likely be the vehicle to bring more teams into P5.

The only recent comment I've seen about how many power conferences there should be came from ACC commish Jim Phillips yesterday, “We want and need the Big 12 to do well. The [Big] 12 matters in college athletics. The Big 12 matters in Power 5 athletics.” If you believe that these comments are well-scripted, then there should be a reason for this statement.

Hockey is very expensive. Penn State started a D1 hockey program 10 years ago. PSU built a new hockey arena and endowed scholarships for men's and women's teams. It took a donation north of $200 million from an alum (now the owner of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabers) to get it done.

I would love to get Mens Soccer and baseball back, but you would need to add a couple womens sports to match that. (maybe add field hockey and lacrosse or something) I didn't realize that Wisconsin is the only one to not have baseball.
looks like not everyone has all sports in the B1G either.

The Big Ten Conference sponsors championship competition in 14 men's and 14 women's NCAA sanctioned sports

1) men’s and women’s Ice Hockey
2) men’s and women’s lacrosse
3) men’s soccer and women’s field hockey

Depends on how big of an arena we need. We currently have a hockey team competing at the club level and are quite good at that level (have won several national titles over the last couple decades). I know it's club, but in Hockey you are either D1 or club, there is no other level to my knowledge. So, we have a decent set up, but not sure if that would be suffice to at least hold a D1 hockey match.

Does ToE have Hockey? I sincerely did not know that.
