One good thing about Texas leaving is that the other teams won’t have take it in the chops over Texas’ unfair advantages they impose on the rest of the league. It doesn’t make up for the other losses, I know, but sometimes one needs to be thankful for small favors.

I've followed these threads intently since the get go, but have now decided to step back and take a breather for these reasons:
- ad-nauseum rinse / repeat ideas
- there's no logic to the B12 rushing
- there's no logic to the B12 revealing their progress or intent
- above 2 for ISU reps too
- we have very good leaders in this
- tired of ***** and stitch
- 95% opinions, 5% facts or numerical justifications (thank you so much to you guys)
- Completely have run out of unique ideas

Now that I have an idea of the quality posters, I'll check back periodically for their input. Enjoy your tea.
I've tuned out these threads, for the most part, over the past week or two. I periodically check in to see if something new.

The one question I guess I still have is why would the R8 of Big12 expand at all right now? If they do wouldn't that kind of mean they expect to stay a conference for the indefinite future? I mean, the other teams are not going to want to come into the Big12 for just a couple of years, right?

So I think the R8 do exactly that, just "remain", and hope to be integrated into a P4 conference in a year or two.

Stew made a good point on CW & Blum's pod. If/when the playoff expands, it won't matter if a new-look BXII is a half step below the power 4. They'd still have plenty of prestige above the current G5 conferences, and would easily have at least 1 team in a 12 team playoff each year.

For the playoffs it would be OK...but they won't get the money from media rights like the "bigger" conferences will be getting. That makes a huge difference for a school like Iowa State!

Exactly. And with that as a premise, one should come up with possible scenarios of which are:
- Expand: This has been discussed to exhaustion
- Remain at 8: Very few are discussing this or are even postulating possibilities. On an obscure basis 8 is a good size because it allows scheduling OOC games with the other P5s yet also have a conference champion. Of course, CFP playoff requirements would need to be adjusted. I've written to Amazon to consider financing the A8 (change Angry to Amazon), use marketing influence to encourage other P5's to schedule 2 OOC games per league. This puts A8 in a unique position of being the evaluation point for strength of a league, puts Amazon in the great position of nationwide viewing/reach, and sustains the A8. This in effect can be negotiated as a temporary contract to allow the A8 to find other P4 homes or, if successful, can be expanded into a full-time role.
Of course, it'd be interesting to see some other's perspectives on how to retain the A8.

Honestly, I don’t see it. There would be a power 4 with a fringe 5 being the big 12. At least in the eyes of the committee. Would hurt ISU and other original members regarding playoff hopes especially and possibly NY6 bowls. Best case scenario for ISU is big10 with Kansas, ideally in a pod with iowa and nebraska. Followed by pac 12, followed by staying in the big 12, followed by American. I think it’s less likely that the latter happens. But honestly anything could happen
THE BIG TEN IS NOT TAKING ANY NEW MEMBERS....JUST LOOK AT THOSE STELLAR TEAMS THEY DID TAKE...MERRYLAND....RUTGARS...AND NEWBRAS-SKI...BETWEEN THOSE STELLAR MEMBERS NOT ONE OF THEM HAS MADE A BOWL GAME...AT LEAST TO MY LIMITED KNOWLEDGE!!

Randy Peterson opines that Memphis would be a good addition because the corporate headquarters of FedEx is located there. And, he says, having a corporate heavyweight as a partner would benefit the Big 12. How would that work, exactly?
Yes and Randy Peterson is about as relevant as a DEAD SKUNK LAYING NEXT TO INTERSTATE 35!!!!

The thing we have to remember is that the conference represents ALL the schools. Considering that no one currently has a landing spot, and the likelihood that more than one school will never have one, they have an obligation to represent those schools' interests.

With that being said, IMO this is simply the conference doing it's homework so that it's prepared for any of the scenarios which may occur. If expansion is in the cards, it is my belief that nothing will happen until it's clear when OU and UT leave.

Wintersteen and Pollard were at our Rotary luncheon today. Wendy said she is optimistic about the Big 12 moving forward. To me it sounded like they were digging in.

Well, they're digging in until Barry Alvarez whispers in Jamie's ear that we're in. Until then, it's the only hand we have to play. Might as well make the most of it.

Yeah but you don’t understand anything, so it’s not surprising you would say that.

I hope they delete this. You guys need to keep your cave/political stuff out of general sports discussion. Please.

You think I’m talking about his views on other topics? I’m talking about his troll here

ISU’s Wintersteen on Big 12’s four-person expansion committee – CycloneFanatic.com | CycloneFanatic: The Internet's most popular site for fans of the Iowa State Cyclones
“There’s no more important topic that’s in front of us right now,” Hocutt said during the Red Raider Club kickoff event. “(It) will be in front of us once the season kicks off and for the next couple of years, I would imagine.”

I think this statement could be interpreted two ways. 1) They are going after B12 additions now. 2) They are planning for the future, 1-3 years from now and preparing for every eventuality.

My feeling is the "second". ISU and the R8/B12 are just preparing, not ready to add. Hocutt's statement of how this will be in front of us for the next couple of years, cements it for me. We are likely to 'hold' for 1-2 years.

Of course what do I know.

Seriously, another thread on this? Isn't this NE vs IL game bad enough? I know, don't click the thread. Whatever.
Posts complaining “another thread” are weaker than the new thread itself. If you don’t like the new thread go somewhere else. No one is making you read this.
