Fox anchors must be high

Eh those rankings aren't that crazy honestly. They rewarded Iowa for demolishing a team ranked higher than them. Indiana could very well be a bad football team this year, but at this exact moment Iowa got credit for a big win.

Clemson was never going to drop much after losing 10-3 to a top-4 team where Georgia's only TD was a pick 6.

OU was owning Tulane until they let the foot off the gas, although they should have slid down a bit for letting it get that close. Ohio State looked like garbage, but let's be real, that school will NEVER drop in the rankings after ANY win.

Notre Dame has yet to play and the others all did what they needed to do. Florida is the only one that I am a little eh on because they looked solid against FAU but nothing special. However, teams in front of them lost or looked like crap (ISU and Oregon).

Am I the only one that thinks Iowa 'should' be favored in the game? Regardless of the new rankings? (of course that's no indication of me thinking we can or will win). I'm just saying it based on or from the non-Cyclone football fan or guru, due to both team's performances yesterday and Iowa's last 5 against us. I really don't think home field means much as to an advantage in this matchup. In fact, I WISH that our great support and fan atmosphere could make more of a difference- like yesterday. But its almost as if a game is going to play out the way its going to play out.

Florida does not jump 4 spots INTO the top 10 after beating unranked FAU. ND does not jump a spot without even having played a game. Iowa does have a case for #10…definitely the best win “on paper”.

What does our game 5 years ago have to do with the upcoming game?

It doesn't. But it does to outsiders/Rece/etc. My post said the 'last 5', as in we have lost 5 consecutive games in the series, correct? Some people take that into account, even if you don't.

It sounds like you're taking into account what happened from 2015-2019. It appears outsiders are looking at the 2021 addition of Iowa vs Iowa State.

Agree somewhat. Except for how we looked yesterday to the 'outsiders' (maybe I should have said naysayers) IS the 2021 edition and they always hype Iowa in the B10 (yes I get our first game isn't a prime indicator and UNI is a respected FB team that gives us fits). But at least my original question has been answered then....I must be the only one on this board that's a Cyclone fan that thinks Iowa should be favored. That's fair. We can agree tho, that we SO WANT to beat those guys and have high expectations and hopes to do just that!

I think you look at the fact that the last three were really close. ISU probably should have won the last time the two teams played. ISU has looked bad in openers every year under Campbell and then gets much better eventually. Definitely by October but last year it only took one game for the Cyclones to completely turn things around.

Biggest reason Iowa State is favored is because if Iowa were favored, all the sharps would be putting big money on Iowa State and there’d be a lot of $ at risk for the betting properties. Oddsmakers and expert bettors don’t overreact to one week like the common fan does. We should be favored and are.

Something to keep in mind: Iowa State was almost 200 points ahead of Oregon in the first poll and more than 400 ahead of Florida.

Unless the majority of voters with ISU on ballot the first time were wholly so unimpressed by the UNI result, we aren’t falling below those teams. It COULD happen, but I’d guess most who had us in top 10 will give some leeway for having an unimpressive "W" vs FCS.

My best-guess for the new ranking - not necessarily how I’d rank, but educated guess of what it’ll be. Take with grain of salt.

1 Alabama
2 Ohio State
3 Georgia
4 Oklahoma
5 Clemson
6 Texas A&M
7 Notre Dame**
8 Cincinnati
9 Iowa State
10 Oregon
11 Florida
12 Iowa
13 Penn State
14 USC
15 Texas
16 Virginia Tech
17 Wisconsin
18 North Carolina
19 UCLA***
20 Indiana
21 Coastal Carolina
22 Utah
23 Arizona State
24 LSU**
25 Louisiana
DO: Washington

ARV: Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, TCU, Auburn, Michigan, Liberty, NC State, Boise State, Nevada, BYU, Maryland …

**Assuming ND win vs FSU. UC&ND were separated by only 5 points in previous poll, simple enough for ND to jump with a higher-quality win.
***UCLA probably in, but perhaps not this high. If it's only 21-25, LSU might drop out. Not sure where this'll land.

Poll Tracker, if you want to see individual voter choices for ISU

Why not? Teams in front of Florida lost and the others didn’t look that great. Fun fact when you barely squeak by a FCS team like we did you get penalized right or wrong as it may be. Florida did what we should have done.
