I only prefer that so I have an excuse to throw away the onion and only eat the breading without my wife judging me. Same is true of chicken strips - I’m good if it’s just greasy, salty fried batter.
I appreciate someone who is honest with himself

Nail salons and other ventures have no impact on the their core competencies, or their investment in core competencies. Hy-Vee was was ahead of the game on mobile / pickup / delivery / rewards and they will continue to focus on those core grocery competencies while trying nail salons and other things in a couple stores (people act like its a 250 store roll out).
Last summer we started getting milk and egg delivery from Sheeder Cloverleaf Dairy. Shortly after the pandemic started they started up delivery and have added options for beef and pork from local producers as well. It's neat have a cooler box on the porch that we get fresh stuff delivered in every week. Crazy that type of service used to be the norm and is making a comeback. I'd highly recommend it if you're wanting to support some local to the Des Moines area folks.
Those are all higher margin business lines vs traditional grocery. That’s why they’re doing it. It’s how you compete with Wal Mart, Target, etc.In addition to Starbucks, DSW shoes, and a clothing dept, the new Grimes Hy-Vee will also have:
A nail salon and gym dept selling: treadmills, ellipticals, etc.
I buy these

Good god yes. I can't believe this hasn't been brought up yet. Every 30 second commercial questions my will to live. Please, for the love of God, stop playing the "Our House" commercials.
Very few in the metro. More than you think in the rural locations.Only higher margins if you can actually sell them. Lower margins with regular turnover is much more profitable than a high margin product that sits on a shelf for a year.
Who's going to buy an elliptical at Hy-Vee? They've sold random grills and fridges for years but I've never actually seen anyone buy one. I assume those end up going to the managers and employees when they're clearances out for the year.
Unless it's also about the cornmeal. I just buy them because they're good.Gotta Say - I love the "Non-GMO" tag on a product for which a genetically modified version of that plant does not exist!
