I was really impressed with Campbell's post-game press conference. The first thing he did was compliment Iowa and credit them for their victory.

The second thing he did was take full responsibility for our team's lack of execution. He said numerous times it's all on him and him alone.

Then Campbell very patiently and respectfully answered every question which had to be tough.

I couldn't help contrasting that with other coaches' press conferences after disappointing losses (e.g., Fran McCaffrey). You really see a person's true colors when they're dealing with adversity.

It's during these difficult times that I feel more than ever how fortunate we are to have a coach like Campbell who leads by example.

I thought the same thing. His players are watching him so he is doing a nice job of practicing what he preaches.

He doesn't have any kind of a ego issue. Took all the shots for the loss and had no problem with that. Many would not do that.

He most definitely fell on the sword - which any really good leader would/should do. I however certainly do not blame him for the loss (certainly not exclusively). For one of the first times in my life, I am viewing this loss on the players - specifically the offensive players. Their execution during the first two games has been nothing short of abysmal - depsite returning everybody from an offense that was one of the best in school history. The coaches are not the ones running lazy routes, throwing weak passes, throwing off backfoot, not seeing running gaps, or not physically taking the LOS. This is on the players, but CMC can't and won't say it.

I agree, I think the accountability does truly stop with him and I appreciate that very much. The next step, however; needs to be looking in the mirror to identify what causes these slow starts for our teams and make the necessary changes. We have seen this consistently over the past several years and whether it is scheme related, game week prep related or August camp related, it needs to change immediately.

He is someone who will absolutely use terminology like "In order to go places you have never been, you have to do things you have never done" and that is what needs to start now.

Other teams come from far and wide to consult with Heacock on his defense, we should be looking to do something similar with teams who traditionally start fast on offense or minimize errors in early games to identify if there are strategies that we can employ with game prep and fall camp to ensure our guys come ready on day 1.

Playing a detail oriented team like Iowa in week 2 doesn't allow for much room for error and the past few seasons, errors have been the downfall of our non-con. Winning in the margins will require us to do more, I wish I had the answers but I will trust CMC to get it done.

Certainly better than anything Frost does with Nebby...terse, one-syllable responses on a set number of questions from the press where he blames everyone but himself. Despite the occasional warts, we are lucky to have him.

Lot's of coach speak. Not his fault. That is just how coaches are. His post game presser was basically like everyone elses.

He and Manning had some heart to hearts. I don't know if it's been discussed elsewhere, but on their TD drive to end the 1H, we had to take a timeout after the long gain to Wilson. Campbell was irate, and you could read his lips that he was saying they need to have tempo there, playing into their hands and what they expect.

The clock management and inability to get plays in at key times has been a weakness of this staff, and seems like it may be falling on OC's shoulders.

Hope to see it cleaned up and adjustments made.

If you wanna beat UNI and Uof I ...you would have to change the offense to a Spread Offense ....and Coach Campbell won't do that for two non conf games!!

I wonder why Manning wouldn’t have already known that It’s not the first time it’s happened

We have to change our offensive scheme to beat an FCS team? And no, we did not need to change our scheme to beat Iowa either. Just taking care of the ball and executing better on special teams would have done it.

And it goes without saying that yes we should be adjusting our game plan to try to win every game. This is big time football .

Agreed. Coordinators have to have a quick mind and be thinking several plays ahead and "what ifs". There really is no time to think and weigh out what you should do. you have to already know.

I certainly commend him for taking the blame, but really, most of it does fall on him at this point. We can blame players lack of execution/bad plays all we want, but we do have a pattern of underperforming early in the season. It is definitely something that stands out and imo, is 100% on the coach. I wouldn't feel quite this way if it wasn't for the fact that maybe we should have changed things up a bit in the offseason.

OK, with that being said, as I said in other threads, I would trade the Iowa game for a Big 12 Championship, so for me, that is still on the table. I'm not terribly worried about a poor start because, well, that's how we always do it.
