Anyone else see MC yelling at Assaley on the sidelines as he walked away from coach?!
Right after the FG? It looked like he was yelling at the sideline in general to get everybody fired up. Unless you’re referring to a different time.

Time for the brain trust to make its halftime adjustments. The defense I trust, the offensive adjustments not so much. Do we have any other receivers to throw to? It’s easy for their defense if they only need to cover certain guys.

Who else thinks Breece runs better when he lines up like an I-back instead of in the spread option next to 15? Purdy is not a running threat against this team. I wish Manning would make the adjustment to a Rus Breece backfield, let the Beast run downfield, and pass out of playaction. The spread option running game is NOT getting it done against these Texas boys who saw nothing but the spread all through HS.

Sick and tired of watching our run block and pass block schemes.

I'm not sure what it takes for this staff to make adjustments at the line of scrimmage when what they are doing obviously isn't working. On offense we have 5 blockers and run slow developing plays. Teams know this and they send 4 to 5 rushers that almost always results in pressure within 3-4 seconds. They either need shorter routes/quicker throws or, the more sensible option, use your TEs as chip blockers before they release into their routes. It also seems apparent there is a lot of confusion along the line as defensive lineman are often unblocked. That would indicate some poor coaching/blocking schemes to me.

Defense isn't much better. When the line holds it's own, our 3 man rush zone scheme works as teams don't have the time to exploit the zone. But, as is happening today, when the defense doesn't get pressure the zone is simply ineffective and adjustments need to be made. We HAVE to show the ability to realize we need a 4 man scheme when not getting consistent penetration.

You can't make knee jerk reactions simply because something isn't working for a short period of time. But when said issues are persistent or have manifested themselves several times over a several game/year period, you need to show you are willing and able to make the adjustments. It's becoming clear to me Campbell and his staff struggle with this aspect. The continued special teams fiascos are another example.

I wonder if what we’re seeing is the Melvin Ejim effect. The talent of this roster might be better than last year but the intangibles of leadership the seniors provided hasn’t been replaced. I’m not liking the body language from a lot of guys. X played with passion on that last drive and was running HARD but then seemed like he was having to yell at our guys to hurry up. Where was the urgency? Not a great sign.

I DISAGREE it was the right call with time running out if Mevis would have hit the 58 yarder we would have only been down by four points....
You’re prob right, I’m just pissed and hate that it takes being down 2 scores with a minute left in the half to mix things up and try some crazy concepts like throwing on first down

Some of the schematic things I’ll give them a pass on, because maybe what we’re doing now is actually the best option given our talent - even if it’s frustrating to watch. ST is different. That’s not scheme at all.

Some bad moments. But this isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be at half all things considered.

Pretty happy about where this sits (mini-rally, as studio guy said), and happy to see CMC really fired up. Bet he spits some serious fire in the locker room!
Yeah CMC is really going to Chew some A** at halftime....

Honestly, I'm relieved that it's a 1 possession game after all the miscues and momentum from BU.

A lot of work to do at half, but defense needs to come out with the mentality that they will get a stop to start the half.
Played about as bad as possible and still a missed field goal away from a 5 point game. Offense is moving the ball, just not finishing right now. If the defense buckles up, I like our chances. The first drive after half will tell a lot.

If the defense wakes up, we’ll be okay. If they don’t, it’s gonna be a tough game.

For me to be optimistic, Defense MUST get two straight stops to start second half -- they don't have to be 3-and-out, by any means, but fairly short series, no points, and give offenses couple of drives to put something together - AND keeps D from getting more fatigued.

We are really not vert n good. D has stats against 3 pathetic offenses. Our guys are weak and out of position constantly. Based on CMC halftime pep talks the team comes out and goes 3 and out.

STs isn't scheme rather making an adjustment (hiring a STs coach) as what the current staff has done, is doing, and will likely continue to do simply doesn't work. And the complacency in CONTINUING to do things that don't work is maddening to watch.

I liked CMC's quote going to the locker room. He said, more or less, We weathered the storm, now what do you want to do? This is great stuff, man.
My comment: you have to enjoy the competition, not just the winning. Now the chess match begins and we see who has that "competitive endurance."
