The playcalling and Purdy's performance is what it is. They were okay in some spots and rough in others. The reality of it is that most fans in college football complain about QB play and playcalling all the time. However, most programs at this level do not have to witness the god awful special teams play we have witnessed over the last three years. That's what kills me. This is an issue unique to Iowa State.

Duh!
OK everybody who knows better than Manning.

What should the play call have been on 2 point conversion? Obviously not what we actually did.

Looks to my untrained eye like Breece to either edge is an easy 2pts.
Not complaining about Manning, but was hoping for the The Landon Akers TD play.

On the radio in the first half the Baylor fans were chanting “over rated”. Eric said “it’s a little early to be doing that.” The next play was a Baylor td.

We say things like this is on specials teams, and this is on Manning, but at the end of the day, when play calling and special teams has been an issue for 2 seasons, the buck stops with the head coach. He's the one that doesn't have the pieces in place to fix it.
It's been longer than two seasons...

It says something that ISU needs its offense and defense to play perfectly in Big 12 games to overcome the deficiencies of special teams. It's a bad recipe for success.

The cynic in me says he wants his reaction to the question to be the story, not the failures in critical moments of the game, just to provide a little cover for players and coaches after a bad loss. But I didn't hear it live for full context.
It's a cop-out answer to a technicality in the question. Just tell us the reasoning in going under center for the most important play of the game.

For running up 479 yards of offense and 27 first downs? That was roughly 200 yards more than WV. Is it having to settle for too many field goals?

Total yards isn't the best stat when you get more chances at yards, but fewer points because:
- Drives die out around the 20
- Throw and interception
- KO return for a TD gives the offense 2 drives in a row artificially.

Saying we out gained them is kind of useless when those factors are considered

I would love to see the difference in special team yardages.
-161 return yards. -112 punt yards. Punting is partially due to fewer punts and more field goal attempts. For a coaching staff that beats the drum of winning in the margins I don’t get leaving the page on special teams blank.

For years people bitched about the QB never going under center. There’s nothing wrong with it as long as you don’t drop the ball.

Go back and watch the replay...I'm pretty sure Newell snapped it straight on ground and it bounced up to Purdy. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that was all Newell.

Not referring to u on this btw....But I'm a bit perplexed at all teh comments on B. Purdy? Dude was 66% for 270yds? Sure there were some throws that were off but overall Brock has played fine..more than fine to win games. Outside Iowa debacle which I don't even blame him for that.

This loss again is 100% on Matt Campbell. Without hesitation. Matt Campbell decisions (Dunn over and over) are why were are 2-2 today.

I’m up for giving Kyle a shot at calling plays. Offense has no identity, consistency nor rhythm. Consistency on offense should be enough to overcome our issues on ST with the schedule we’ve played but obviously that hasn’t been the case.
