I'm in the same section one row above you and I had to plug my ears at times. I realize we're all different but it was definitely too loud for my taste.I sit in row 2 of the upper deck (section V) and don't have any complaints about volume, haven't noticed it being too quite or too loud. I think it's mainly an issue being too loud for those at the same level as the speaker which I think is roughly middle of the upper deck (inside the areas on either side of the north video board) and perhaps some other places where you get reflections off other surfaces.
As long as there's no cheap ass DJ
Interesting, we're on the aisle next to the entrance opening, I wonder if that has anything to do with it not being as loud as other parts of the section.I'm in the same section one row above you and I had to plug my ears at times. "Alright Cylcone fans, let's give it up for Cinammon!!"
With all the stadium upgrades, the new performance center, the plaza, etc. it really is a GREAT looking Jack Trice. Kudos to Pollard, and the many, many of us fans for continuing to financially support this program. And the progressive vision of the future. Love being there.
My question is, does anybody know if 'fan comments' are welcomed? And is an email to JP the only route to express those?
So many of those in our section last night, about 20 yd line in upper deck on northwest side, could hardly tolerate the extreme volume of the sound system. Not that any of us could barely converse without yelling, due to the loudness, but several of us did think the volume was louder than even the previous two home games. Yes, it was multiple people discussing this and we've sat that for many years.
And before the bashing begins, yes, we realize everything can't be perfect. Like I said, we love being there. Every venue/business/operation usually welcomes feedback. And we really don't know if it is heard differently in the lower section, let's say on the 50 yd line, or on the south end, etc. No, we are not elderly, nor wear hearing aids. We had friends there for their first game, and they couldn't believe how loud it was. There are such fun things put on the video board, including music, that it seems a shame that the extreme volume often took away from it. Or actually drowned out itself.
Anyone else have the same issue? Is it the same no matter where you sit? Trust me, we like things loud, too. But this seemed overly extreme last night. If it was toned down 'just a tad' , are other parts of the stadium effected?
I would hope that this simple fan question or comment doesn't have to be construed as being negative. Just wondering others' experience. By the way, I commend a few mothers I saw there with headphones on their baby or toddler's ears...smart.
Go Cyclones!
For people talking about sound distribution, there is no way to do that in a stadium. You can only have speakers in one location. If you tried to put speakers in multiple locations you would have phasing issues and it would sound terrible.
This has to be some kind of joke. Just an absolutely stupid issue to discuss… We have way more things at ISU to worry about than “the speakers are too loud”…
My God.
They had to make it that loud last night in order to drown out the dozens of KU fans... watching from home.
The problem is that it’s loud for you but quiet for others. It’d be nice if they could figure out sound distribution through the stadium in a future upgrade.
Chris Jorgensen is charge of game day operations.
Look him up on staff directory and send him an email if you want. I think it has been this loud since we finished the SEZ.
uh...it's not quiet anywhere at the Jack, except, perhaps, the restrooms or high-rent boxes. Sat in section P first half; section W second half.
WAY too loud both places.
Yet you can hardly hear it in SW corner of the stadium
Is this a professional opinion? Have you sat everywhere in the Jack? All the sections you mention are upper bowl. Lower bowl seats - especially the bottom half - sound Is an issue. It’s due to the acoustics of the stadium and the location of the speakers which are level with the upper deck.
In an outdoor stadium? I've never seen that. I've seen it in indoor stadiums where you can hang speakers from the ceiling in the center, but how do you isolate your different audio zones in an outdoor setting when all the speakers have to be pointing towards the center of the field? This is false. Distributed systems exist that spread speakers around a stadium. It involves more work and expertise than just slapping some speakers up in an endzone, but many stadiums already have this.
