Here is how the pods could work.

1) Play every other team in your pod (3 games)

2) Play another pod on rotating basis (4 games)

3) On semifinal weekend you play the equivalent placed team in another pod you haven't played that year on a rotating basis. So #1 team vs #1 team from another pod you haven't played and #2 vs #2 and so on and so forth. (1 game)

That is an eight game conference schedule that is fair and balanced.

4) Winners of the semifinal games between the #1 teams plays each other in the CCP.

Behind you
I think what they will do is, play 8 conference games, then on semifinal wknd, they will have the pod winners play the semi's and match up the remaining teams based on pod standings for their 9th conference game. Kind of like what the big 10 tinkered with last year. Not all of the games would be great but it's a nice way to set up some TV friendly matchups.

Which I think would've been cool. But if they create an additional entire slate of conference games at the end of the season I'd think they'd have to then lose an OOC game, no? If not that'd create 13 "regular season" games before the CCG and bowls.

The SEC? Yea because they only play 8 right now, they would but I think they were planning to do that anyway if they can get an expanded playoff with no limit per conference. They want marquee TV matchups every week, that just isn't happening now, especially when you have teams like Bama and Florida who play once a decade.

It'd be interesting if they actually took that step. One thing it does is risks a CFP spot. If a Bama and/or a Georgia are upset in the semis, and a two- or maybe even three-loss semifinalist catches lightning and wins out, there'd be no guarantee they'd get a CFP spot as long as it's at four. That'd be a costly outcome.

I actually don't know if the 'that's too many games' argument was ever official from the folks setting up the current situation, but they would absolutely make sure there was a safety net for 'Bama/tOSU etc. to get in to the CFP.

1. There are talks about changing the divisions that have been heating up with how one sided they have been for the last decade. I haven't heard anything concreate but pods have been floated around.
2. There is still no serious talk of expansion and if it was it would certainly come from within the "alliance" schools so that part is completely misinformed.

#1 doesn't align with #2. You can't do pods with 14 schools.

With 16 schools and four 4-team pods, scheduling headaches are resolved for the most part where you play the other 3 teams in your pod every year and everyone else in the conference twice every 4 years. SEC will be going to this once OU and UT are added.

And while the Alliance has the 3 conferences, those 3 conferences are discussing scenarios where each of the 3 will expand to 16 with existing B12 schools. Whether they actually go through with that is open to debate but it is certainly on the table. The P12 simply cannot go on as-is with using the PACN for their Tier 3 FB inventory and without a CT zone presence. The ACC is desperately attempting to re-do their TV deal with ESPN and the only way they get that done is with expansion. And as noted, the B10 resolves a lot of their scheduling headaches with expansion to 16 while opening up markets for BTN streaming subs.

well Franklin said this recently

I'm reading that Franklin is saying that Ohio State and Penn State potentially being in the same division this year and the two best team, sans Iowa sucks and at the start of the year they should shuffle the deck to "seed" the teams.

Division 1: 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13 seeds
Division 2: 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14 seeds

I'm not interpreting it in anyway the same as Dodd

Yeah, but those semi-finals might be worth just about as much as the first playoff round. It's worth it even if it means losing out on a CFP every 10 years or so.
For real. I could see them having these games in Atlanta, New Orleans, Dallas, Nashville. Could be a huge money maker. Sort of becomes a defacto CFP at that point.

Great point. With the footprint, all of that is available to the sec.
