If you average the field position lost from not converting fourth down along with the additional yards/points gained from converting, and then compare that to the results of our punts…. It makes it pretty easy to decide NOT to punt.

Even then its probably a net positive to be in 4-down offense. If nothing else for how it changes the preceding downs. Gaining as few yards as we often do on punts makes the benefit of punting really, really small .

Sometimes, I'd say, "Why not?" if punting is weak, but then again, we can't convert 3rd-and-a-foot, so I guess a 26-yard punt from there probably is a safer call.
