Recent class of '22 recruiting surge by tOSU shouldn't sway his decision much I wouldn't think. He's one and done. I'd assume he's wanting something now and I hope Joe Colon can be that guy.

This is crazy!

I'm sure Joe would appreciate Suriano's presence as well.

Did Willie mention his guess in one of his shows on Rokfin or something?

Do we know that Suriano wants to or can make 125?

(as an aside, I see that Gomez wrestled his first match at Wisconsin--at 149)

Willie saying someone put $ 150,000 on the table for Suriano - as usual don’t know if we can believe this but it’s out there

I’m kinda curious myself. Wrestling is the sport that could use the NIL stuff to it’s advantage more than any other sport, in my opinion.
I mean I love wrestling, so if it gets a guy like Suriano cool, but yes $150k could go elsewhere and have a way bigger impact. A potential high-level football or men's basketball player is where it would benefit more. I hate to say this because I want us to be back in the mix for wrestling at the national level, but that's a pure fan thing. Wrestling does not matter on the national stage, which sucks, but it is what it is. Football makes the money and pays the bills, so if you can somehow get a high-impact football player to give our program a boost that can have a bigger payoff down the road (win a Big 12 title for example) that's where it should go.

But again, as a pure fan of wrestling I am not going to complain if it gets us a talent like Suriano hahaha!

But, unlike basketball and football, wrestling is hamstrung from an available scholarship prospective. There aren’t enough available schollies to give a full lineup a free ride, even if we wanted to. Basketball, by comparison, is allow 2.5 times the schollies needed to put a team on the court.

The wrestling community should be using NIL to bridge that gap, if they aren’t already. That’s all I’m saying.

The impact of a Suriano could be potentially huge not just for NCAA placing which raises our credibility but for future recruiting and the RTC - someone willing to offer NIL $ to wrestling wouldn’t necessarily be inclined to give it to football or basketball. With the scholarship situation for wrestling and the deep pockets of the RTCs at other schools NIL will be important for schools in the position we are .

How about a stud who’s going to be around longer than two months? How about spread it over a few of stud recruits? How about put it towards the club? Is it really that important to finish 8th instead of 12th?

Regardless, I’m not buying the story anyway.

just want to clarify Willie did not say what schools booster put up the money - pretty sure that wouldn’t be a reach for tOSU or PSU - also stated I didn’t necessarily believe it. If someone at any school put up that kind of money or any money the intent with NIL would be to get something back for your investment - advertising or whatever - also may include post college commitments - for that kind of $ I would want a proven product to invest in . NIL money I am pretty sure goes to individuals not RTC’s.
For the record , I am not a fan of NIL but it’s here and right now it’s sort of like the Wild West . Gonna have to use it to stay in the game.

Oh no I completely get it, and again I will say it. I love wrestling, and am in no way going to turn down someone wanting to use their money on a great wrestler to get him in here. Just making the poster's point above that from a thing that can actually help ISU potentially on a national level and making money.
