Best case, he gets drafted in the 4th or 5th round to a team with an established veteran and he gets to be the cheap backup for a few years while flashing in the preseason to get a second contract. That leads to the Chase Daniel career making a boatload of money being a savvy backup that supports the starter.

Worst case he goes undrafted but is a practice squad guy next year. No doubt in my mind he would be a better option than Sean Mannion or Kellen Mond as the Vikings backup currently.

Arm strength is overrated IMO. Accuracy is far more important. Completing around 70% of his passes seems to indicate he makes good decisions and gives his WR's a chance to catch.

Who he gets drafted by seems more important than what round. Purdy will make a roster next year, probably on a practice squad.

Everyone seems to agree that Purdy is average/bordline from a physical talent standpoint. His game knowledge is hard to read--probably also good, but not elite. Can anyone lend insight on his work ethic? If drafted, will he commit to meticulously developing his craft? It's unclear to me if he has done that at ISU. But that could also be coaching related.

Just going to throw a few names at you here:

Kevin Streveler
PJ Walker
Brandon Allen
Will Grier
Brett Rypien
David Blough
Easton Stick
Bryce Perkins
Sean Mannion
Ian Book
Reid Sinnett
Logan Woodside

These are all dudes that are QBs on an active roster right now.

Interestingly I went back and looked at the NFL.com write-up on Ian Book coming out last year and here's what they had:

Sounds alot like someone else we know (Book is 6' 0") and Book went in the 4th round.

Doubt he get's drafted but will be picked up quick. Colt McCoy type of career is his ceiling IMO, and that is nothing to slouch on.

He’ll be drafted. Whether he’s on an active roster or starts practice squad, I don’t know. Hell of a player and I love the guy. If I’m an NFL scout, my biggest red flag is his performance against Iowa and his head coach benching him to “collect himself.” I don’t think that’s a common sight at the NFL level

I'm on the he'll get drafted side. My college age son and I just had this conversation. 5th round and he'll be a back up on an opening day roster.
He's had an amazing college career for us. Terrific student athlete. Best ever at Iowa State stats don't lie.

Those weaknesses sound like they should be damning.

Would another knock on Brock be he has only operated out of the shotgun? Or has he utilized drops before isu.

It's a subtle thing, but subtle things matter when there's 70ish people with the title of NFL QB... The hashes being thinner in the NFL affect Brock's value, short outs can be longer throws than they are in college.

As mentioned, I don't think he get's drafted but if the right team signs him he could have a productive backup career. He's a change of pace from most QBs even in the modern game and clearly a winner. There's 130 teams in the FBS not to mention the Wentz's, Warner's, etc... who were FCS. Alot of competition, I hope I'm wrong and he becomes a clear starter.

Nowhere, no, and no.
Late round is possible. When teams take 4 QB's in the first round, that means about 10 total will go? He's one of the best 10 qb's this year. It isn't the best QB class.

Having said that, a wild run to end the year would certainly solidify this.

I said similar to a friend this weekend. Could see a team like the Saints, Seahawks taking him. I could see him being, essentially, a Chase Daniel type....not really play much, but valuable to have as a back up.

Tech friend of mine made the exact same comparison. I think it's apt.

He will get drafted. Questions about his size and arm strength will move him lower than his statitsics would otherwise suggest.

I think he will stick in the NFL a while, even if he doesn't play a whole lot, because he will be a hard studying, hard working, positive influence, half assistant coach, good culture kind of guy.
